His military allegedly killed what, 3k commies?

Who were hell bent on a communist uprising that would have killed over 1 million?

Easy Pinochet button slam no captain sweat required.

According to the history books, and allegedly some of his own officers, he employed some pretty heavy handed "enhanced interrogation techniques" against people that may or may not have been part of the communist infiltration. If all of it were true I'd say he went too far but it's pretty much a guarantee they are exaggerated.

Pinochet was not some highly intelligent Machiavellian statesmen.

He was just a general. He dealt with the problem as best as he could. He was mainly surrounded with the rest of the bickering Junta. One thing you do have to give him credit for. Milton Friedman went and convinced him to stop with the price controls and liberalise the economy. That more than anything stabilised the situation by allowing the price signal to function. There aren't that many people out there who are intelligent enough to change their minds when evidence and logical arguments are presented.

A lot of people will just carry on with a failed strategy or method and expect different results.

Yea I was just responding to this part of the previous comment

Just saying there was more unsavory things he was alleged of doing/supporting. Not that it didn't make sense that he would do that at the time
