Due to something completely unrelated to COVID, I have started distrusting the medical profession.

Are you sure it wasn't the abuse of medical science to jail you in your home and stick you full of needles? Are you absolutely sure?!

Funnily enough, they did jail me in my house and stuck me full of needles.

Happens. Cheer up, won't be the last time.

I haven’t trusted the profession in years. Don’t go unless I break something, then they’re useful. Like last year I broke my wrist. Loved that doc

Yep, I trust surgical stuff, but I don't trust most medication and tests (where they tell you you probably have an underlying disease that they just don't know about yet and send you to 20 more specialists).

Don't even get me started on psychologist and I have an MA in psychology. If you want to poison your own mind and life, go talk to a psychiatrist (those guys prescribe pills).

Human behavior isn't real? Emotion, intelligence, personality?

A Behaviorist would say there is no internal process to explain observable behavior. It's all external forces.

You might say well that's one out of like 7 schools of thought. Well if you can disbelieve one what makes you think one can't disbelieve them all. Not saying I do but I can see why psychology/sociology are the soft sciences.

The theory of psychology is vastly different from the practice of psychology. Case and point - a good friend is a child psychologist who wanted to help children overcome mental obstacles. She recently told me that a large portion of her patients are little boys referred to her by teachers, who say that the boys are too rowdy (most of them are energetic and happy) and should be diagnosed as having ADHD. If she makes the diagnosis, they’ll refer the case up to psychiatrists who prescribe pills.

Also, have you read the latest studies in psychology lately? They basically just do a survey of 50-100 undergrad psychology students and call that a study.

Human behavior, intelligence are real. And some people have a hard time. But I think modern psychology help at most 20% of its patients. I have met wonderful psychologists and researchers, but would say that they are probably much less effective than you’d hope they be.

ADHD is bullshit. I'm so sick of encountering grown men who tell me they have it and expect me to accept that as some sort of valid excuse for their shortcomings. When I was 8 I got diagnosed with ADHD and they put me on ritalin. Shit made me a zombie slug, but the teachers were happy with how well behaved I suddenly was. I was just a freaking kid who was bored out of his mind in school. AKA, normal boy.

We don't need them we got WebMD lol. But I hear ya, three horrific experiences with family members in the last few years non covid related. Seriously bad diagnosis....and ill be damned but I think it was all for the $$$$. I no longer trust them at all. Two members get layman's advice and were fine with over the counter treatments and my mom avoided a dangerous and completely unnecessary surgical procedure. Wth!

Thanks ya gotta be your own advocate. They tried to tell my brother he had a brain tumor. Then after the CAT scan showed nothing they tried to tell him he had a mental problem. Insane, he had fn vertigo and zero signs or symptoms of anything else but sure as Hell they billed his insurance company for several consults with neurological experts ( whom he never met and only talked to a few times over the phone ). Neighbor gave him some otc stuff for vertigo, problem solved after months of total shenanigans.
