Global Warming not so much there have been cooks around peddling this for years. Now that social impacts of it I can see an argument for having Chinese origin.
COVID yes and no. COVID was for sure a scare op. The reason I say yes and no is because now every day people are doing their work for them. If Xi decided "hey lets stop that now" for what ever reason I don't think they could (not that they would want to ofc).
As for becoming the global hegemon? this is 100% their goal. There is an old Chinese saying that goes "there can be only one sun in teh sky". Do the people really think the Chinese sub-humans would be content with America in that position? Hell no. Plus as the lynchpin of post-modern western tradition the displacement of the United States as the sole global hegemon or at best (for us assuming China's plans come to fruition) becoming a dual-hegemony would have ripples across the globe.
I do not expect the US to be displaced in the next decade going along this track but see an uptick in proxy wars. The US currently has the edge with respect to training, hardware, and technology. The Chinese have numbers and a limited way to project hard power. This is why they are so focused on espionage and soft power tactics. With respect to global trade this is why they seek to erode our manufacturing base, control the global trade in rare earth metals (a trade in which they have 95% control and is the driving reason for their focus on east africa)
Part of the Chinese Strategy will be a financial attack first. COVID has cause borrowing at all levels, be it Federal, State, Municipal, Individual, and corporate to skyrocket. In addition all the lockdowns cause the single most important thing in the entire economy to halt, human productivity. People make things then use those things to satisfy needs/wants. This is the process of creating value. That is the economy.
Imagine this China dumps American bonds all over the world all at the same time. The Chinese will take a haircut for sure but their goal was not a return, it was destabilization of the American economy.
