I think its a status thing. For all the power and money a politician gets ahold of, there not a lot of ways to stand out these days. Wealth status symbols have been financed and devalued to the point that any minimum wage worker with a good head can get themselves a nice house, nice car, quality entertainment, etc.
So the only thing these guys have over the average citizen is the ability to indulge in illegal behavior with minimal consequences. so drugs and prostitutes is pretty much the norm. even in those categories, they aren't hard to get.
so what do you do with your infinite money power and leverage?

Predators choose victims who cannot defend themselves. It's that simple.
I think there's also an element of it being used primarily for blackmail. Like a sick initiation ritual. Because it's such a heinous crime to the public (probably the worst) that their lives would be ended if they don't follow the path.
I don't really bother to think about these things and wish they didn't exist, however, thanks to our president and all the exposure to this shit I'm definitely made more aware of it.
That said, I think it has a lot to do with the neurotic condition these ultra rich people have. It's never enough for them, they need to keep pushing it - they have to find more to make themselves feel whatever the fuck they feel to stay in their state.
It's ultimately evil shit, but it's just that they can't get enough of what it is they get - which is ultimately controlling us in any means possible; the more fucked up it is the better for them because that gets more of a kick out of them.
Unsatisfied people will always push limits looking for satisfaction. This is true for everything, weather it's depraved sexual gratification, or a more productive field.
That's it. They've got the evil in them to keep it going and the sad people keep following them to enable it. It needs to stop
