Russia and China are not at all comparable in terms of gun ownership. Although subject to restrictions that hopefully Americans will never accept the likes of, Russians can and many do own firearms for hunting, self-defense, and many of the same things we enjoy, pistols and rifles. China, on the otherhand, restricts all personal ownership of firearms with the exception of some very exclusive types of guns permitted for holders of rare hunting licenses (and I believe storage in a personal residence is not permitted, could be wrong).
