It’s kind of interesting how all the people screeching about how everyone needs to stay home and stop working are all people that have been able to work throughout the pandemic.
I thankful that I have been able to keep working since this started. The company I work for has keep its doors open. They planed for a recession last year. I know most business didn't.
I feel very bad for restauranteurs who are being driven out of business by these non-essential lockdowns, but let's be honest: there really is nothing essential about going out to eat. I respect anybody who starts a business but at some point Americans really have to think about spending their money on more important things than a $12 plate of nachos and a couple of $7 beers.
Fuck you, buddy. Our economy and businesses were built around that model and as a bachelor that works extensively on the road eating out is how I survive and enjoy myself. Talking with strangers around a bar is almost as old of a tradition as beer itself. I'd much rather enjoy myself out and about than accumulate cheap chinese TVs and worthless products to sit at home alone with.
The job and business are essential for the folks that made it their passion and livelihood. In good times a restaurant can be the worst business proposal, but owners do it because they love food and sharing it with others and I'm beyond grateful for the service industry folks who are fun and awesome and continue to invent and create new foods, sauces, drinks and so much more that make people feel amazing. Maybe you think its essential that we keep the companies open peddling cheap chinese products like TVs while family run businesses like restaurants and bars go tits up for non-science based, arbitrary decided policies. I swear at this point the Democrat governors are doing it, because the restaurant industry doesn't give them enough money and gives too much to the folks trying to unseat them.
It's essential if you bet your livelihood on your restaurant being allowed to do business. It's essential that "non essential workers" support their family. I guess they can look forward to being bakers for the bread lines though.
I completely disagree. Me and a bunch of single people in my town who are self employed and work from home, or work alone in various trades, met almost every day for a couple beers at our local pub almost daily after work.
The lack of human interaction has taken its toll. For those of us who don't have families at home, it gets downright lonely. I've gotten overly cranky and impatient as a result.
That local pub gave us and others a sense of community, where a multimillionaire could shoot the shit with the guy who cut his grass. That's being lost.
So yes - from a mental health and community standpoint, those restaurant workers were and are critical.
Okay I.mean if we want to go down that road goodbye travel leisure sports art and entertainment . Very little is really essential if we get down to the brass tacks.
But who exactly gets to decide how people make and spend their money? I'm as minimalist as they come but I have no right to interfere in the lifestyles and livelihoods of others. No sir.
If the lock downs were about closing non essential businesses for the greater good then by right basically everything but food stores , essential public services and medical facilities would be shut down right? But that's not what's happening. The NFL Hollywood and Amazon are allowed to operate while school sports, local theaters and the local hardware store are closed. Hmmmm maybe this isn't about whats safe or essential at all. Maybe its about crushing the middle class while empowering the technocrats and powerful people.
Maybe this is about the Great Reset where what is essential will no longer be for you to decide.

I have a friends in the restaurant industry with few marketable skills for something else. They are seriously hurting.
It's like the old Twilight Zone episode where the court determines a man is obsolete and executes him

... or replaceable.
Gattaca....valid and invalid.

So the government gets to dictate your quality of life over a bogus virus....well said commie.
