How politically partisan would it have looked shortly before the election for the U.S. Attorney General to drop the bomb that the oldest surviving son of one of the candidates was the target of a federal criminal probe? For this reason, Barr waited until after the election.

Why do I feel like a stupid person just tried to manipulate me?

I completely understand it and agree. Additionally, had the roles been reversed, the DOJ and the media would be all over Turmp. However, Rs and sometimes even Trump himself keep constantly coming up with this stupid "holier than thou" attitude in an attempt to win over some independents and moderates. There's PR strategies being deployed here whose goal is supposedly for the people wielding power to not appear vindictive or bully-ish. This has been going on for decades and the Rs justify it as not wanting to stoop on the Ds' level, but they also enjoy not having their boats rocked too hard and just sucking on the gravy train that they get, regardless of being in power/in opposition. Personally, I think this is the worst error Trump's made in his presidency (not deciding to go full scorched earth, because the establishment was out to get him regardless of what he did), but I also think that it was necessary to avoid impeachment. He had to rely on RINOs and establishment Rs to help him out. He's the GEOTUS and I am not. I can only hope KFC Barr wasn't a full-on swamp failure and this article gives some food for thought.

Not making a call on the veracity of it, but the reasoning behind it is sensible and it's a decent perspective. This doesn't mean "TRUST THE PLAN", just that this would cover some holes in my current thinking.
