25 Mortality among US young adults is rising due to “deaths of despair” from suicide, drug overdoses, due to hopelessness, cynicism, poor interpersonal skills and failure in relationships. Childhood intervention to improve emotional awareness and interpersonal competence could help reduce these deaths.
