I don’t think evidence really matters if things escalate to military intervention. At that point it becomes a might-makes-right situation and the evidence would just be a footnote in the history books.
It is similar in meaning to the saying that history is written by the winner. The group that is the strongest is right because they are the last ones left.
They're also going to destroy even more evidence.
