I'm so deplorable that going to Washington D.C. on Jan. 6th 2021 will the the most important thing I ever do in my life. And I'm 59 years young. I've never been east of the Rockies and have to fly from Los Angeles. I can't afford $1100- for 2 nights in the Trump hotel : ( but there's lots of hotels for like $300- to $400- I can do. I just don't want to be in the wrong place at the wrong time (as Dr. John would say). Looking at the map there's areas like Lincoln Heights, downtown, Foggy Bottom (hmm...). Just need a little guidance on the areas to avoid and where I'm most likely to be with my fellow Patriots!

I would start with going in the right month
Unnecessary remark.
You're right. And thank you. But I must confess that such low hanging fruit sometimes needs to be plucked.
Oh boy! let ne change that lol.
Stay wherever you can afford. If the showing is as big as I hope it will be, you will not be the only one wearing a MAGA hat.
Don't stay in DC. Stay in the suburbs off the Silver Line (anywhere past Clarendon) or Red Line (Rockville or further), or Blue Line (Franconia/Springfield) or Yellow Line (King St to Eisenhower) and ride Metro in. If you are showing MAGA colors, make sure you're w/a group or prepared to fight on Metro/Metro stations anywhere in side the DC diamond (https://www.worldmap1.com/map/united-states/district-of-columbia-map.asp), but especially closer to DC, within 4 stops of Metro Center, or anywhere east of L'Enfant.
check the rv rentals. imho couple days with an rv you can skip the hotel and the rental car.
