Ted is first and foremost a political creature out for his own personal survival..He can see for himself that ignoring this issue and hoping it will die down or go away is akin to political suicide..He understands that the GOP is no longer the same animal it was 5 years ago..That they are tired of losing graciously so people like Shapiro can grift off of a leftist administration, so they can write long winded articles for National Review, and pretend Reagan will someday come back.
