I've taken that mid route during the winter, it can be a disaster with ice and snow. Watched over 10 trailers jackknife in Texas panhandle. Lower route is safer and will be much faster
tru that. the route up to flagstaff is one hell of a climb but if its dry weather the road will be fine. personally I avoid Oklahoma in the winter but its winter. let the weather be your guide fo sure!
