Yeah right, NYT. If Trump is actually considering appointing a special counsel at this point, that is crazy. No criminal investigation is going to stop Biden being inaugurated on 1/20. It's too late for that. If he was going to do that, he should have done it in 2019 or at least months ago. If he was going to do anything criminally, he should have fired Barr and Wray before the election, making sure that whoever took over was prepared to lead the FBI in executing search warrants and making arrests before and especially immediately after the election. It's too late for that now. The only thing that is going to save Trump at this point is public opinion and hard public influence to the state legislatures and Congress. That or success in SCOTUS. Short of that, it doesn't look like he's getting support from the military. Short of Congress and state legislatures, Trump appears to be in an increasingly small bubble in the White House. Looks like it's up to us, and only us.

If his generals won't obey an order from the CiC, he should fire them right now. Insurrection Act IS a constitutional order.

I think you're getting to very darkest gray of what is constitutional when the order would be just days before an orderly "constitutional" transition of power, when the order is essentially a military coup d'etat. Without support from Congress or SCOTUS, we're into post constitutional, and we can't count on anyone but ourselves. I mean really. How much power to fire anyone, and for how many days, do you think Trump has left?

I think he should do it right now because I agree w/ you that it'll be too late by the 6th.

I just wonder what exactly you guys think he's going to do and who he's going to get to do it, exactly? Because on Jan 6, Congress is going to be counting electoral votes. What do you think he's going to do now, exactly, and who is going to do that? If he doesn't stop the electoral college election Jan 6, what then, exactly?

If anything this EO, insurrection act, or any other means of power he has access to can only be used to influence the legislatures, courts, media and public. If he had gotten the FBI to execute mass armed military style operations to search and arrest these election operatives both before and immediately after the election, that would have made a difference. Apparently, he didn't have that power or motivation to use it.

Let me ask you something. Can you name one person in the Executive branch, including Trump, as president, not candidate, that has lifted a finger to put a stop to this election fraud? I can't. The entire Executive branch has been shockingly sitting on the side lines long before the election and now for 6 weeks after. Trump has a bunch of private attorneys as a presidential candidate. That's it. It seems to me Trump is becoming more and more isolated in a shrinking bubble within the White House. Is he even lobbying individual congressmen? I think he's running out of options short of a few court cases that don't seem to be getting the light of day and the big unknown, the public.
