You have to cross a bridge from Virginia, but Maryland has hundreds of streets into D.C. If you want to avoid roadblocks, checkpoints, etc. Come in from Prince George's county, NOT Montgomery county. I'm native Washingtonian...

I live in this area and I can confirm, MD cops are absolute assholes if they know or think you own firearms. If you have a Concealed Carry permit from your state, they will see that before they walk to your window and try everything to catch you not properly transporting by MD law. Hell, they will step all over your rights to get into your vehicle if you have stickers or decals that would even elude to the idea you may have a firearm in there. I'm not going to go into detail of the req's for sake of leaving out important info, so do your research if you EVER plan on driving through MD with a firearm in the car. (Basically, the firearm can be inside the vehicle but unloaded without the magazine, and the magazine must be locked in the trunk).
You can argue your rights all day and night, but if they want to get into your car, THEY WILL call a K9 unit and the K9 WILL alert no matter what and give them their so called right to search your vehicle. I won't even get started on the gross violations of our Constitutional Rights when it comes to K9 searches.
In VA the worst dept to watch out for is Fairfax County Police. That's another dept that will shit all over your rights, and they love fucking with out of state drivers. They basically try to search every vehicle they pull over. I'd be surprised if there was a single officer worth a damn in that dept.
