and plan for a blizzard. You left off an important part Pede. If Washington had needed good weather to cross the Delaware River, America wouldn’t be here.
Plan for it, but it's not where the weather pattern in VA/MD/DC usually goes.
Expect cold wind and damp, so have some nice warm boots with nice warm insoles. If you have a coat with layers, that's perfect. You might want to layer your gloves, though, by bringing some of those cheapy stretch knit gloves as your underlayer.
This is an early snow year for DC. We usually don't get anything but rain until late January, but I'm looking out my window at my neighbor's frozen yard right now. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was another winter like 2009/2010, where we get a bunch of ice storms through February.
Can confirm - grew up there in the 60s and escaped to US Navy. It's been ruint since I can remember. Got lost once during a business trip decades later in Suitland MD - I remember having serious thoughts about my mortality while navigating that dangerous territory.
It was an easy metro ride into DC and then walking a block or so to wherever I needed to go. Arlington is a nice area. I'm a female, was traveling with 2 other females and we were fine. This was over 10 years ago and I haven't been back so I'm not sure how that neighborhood is now but it was fine back then.
Don't bring your phone, even though that makes it hard to check train status. The service has already been cut drastically too and almost all in person amenities are shut down until 1/15.
Why not bring your phone? There's a lot of threads on that here, but basically it's a massive security risk.
During the event you'll be tagged as a dissident and tracked, with that info passed to antifa should you end up isolated. Once you leave you'll be targeted by all the alphabet agencies for the rest of your life unless Trump purges then Stalin style.
They'll grab all your data and use it against you. Don't give them the opportunity
They already have a million ways of knowing that I support Trump. I get mail from him for fucks sake. I think we’re past the point of being the “silent majority”.
From what I’ve read, every inauguration and major similar event they impose some control over the subway to ease numbers. Also carrying anything that would be fine in your home state but a no-no in DC is NOT recommended on the subway.
Check that the trains will be running.
The dc mayor will shut down everything she can. Be prepared to walk in from the outskirts. Pray for good weather

We get a blizzard about once every 10 years here in DC. It would be fitting if it happened during the big moment.
I think it was 2015 when it was hit with a major blizzard in January.
The almanac is predicting rain or wintry mix for Jan 6.
Rain shouldn't stop people from fighting for freedom, bad weather and snow and a bad stomach didn't stop George Washington from crossing the Delaware.
I've read that he was shitting himself all night.

The Hilton Alexandria Old Town is right next to the King Street Metro in a safe neighborhood. https://www.hilton.com/en/book/reservation/rooms/?ctyhocn=DCAOTHF&arrivalDate=2020-12-20&departureDate=2020-12-21&room1NumAdults=1&brandCode=HI&inputModule=HOTEL_SEARCH&ohwDeepLinking=true
I’m staying near union station so I’ll have travel options from where I live - drive, train or bus.
This!
Dont book to stay in DC proper.
You obviously dont live in the area. Its quite obvious.
Lots of hotels in walking distance of the events. I’m checking out the DuPont Circle area.
DuPont is a safe area. Lots of homos.
I'd recommend staying outside of the DC Metro area if you plan on driving.

Spoiler alert: they won’t.

The metro system is already in a downward spiral, suspending services, because of covid.
