Several congressmen say they don't want to "override our democracy" (how ironic), but maybe if we up the ante a little bit, and several senators and congressmen know their job won't exist in a few days if they sell out, it might change attitudes a little bit.

I agree. And then amend the constitution to provide that government officials who violate the constitution will be personally liable, and that all government officials can be subject to recall or removal by popular vote. The Congress men and women need to feel the heat.
