RPR Rifle in 6.5 Grendel if you can get one in your price range high bore and its cheap not the best looking gun but very effective

Hunting what?

In any case, I would recommend something chambered in .22LR as a starter. Cheap gun, cheap ammo (if you can find it), gives you plenty of practice to get you going. Bolt, lever or semi-auto would be more of a matter of personal preference, but I would suggest bolt, since they tend to keep you more disciplined.

agreed, but i'd go with a semi-fully automatic, a 10/22 is never a bad investment.

I agree, but as an early trainer, bolt is better. Maybe even a single-shot bolt.

?? Lame. Why would you assume he is hunting squirrels or rabbits?

Huck_Farris 1 point ago +1 / -0

I am not assuming anything. I am going with his statement that he never owned a rifle. Let's just say that my first one was a 45-70. BIG mistake.

But for $700 one can pick up a rimfire bolt for plinking and a good used lever for deer.

Turn yourself in. It’s not good to shoot your grandpas.

A nice Marlin or Winchester 30-30 will be in that range and it is a versatile cartridge in a nice light gun

Right now it's not so much about what rifle to get... It's can you get the ammo for it. I would base my decision on what quantity ore you looking to purchase. Its all as high as giraffe pussy.

Try looking for an entry level AR, and consider getting one chambered in something that's NOT 223/556. I'd consider 7.62 x 39 since it's cheaper than 223 at the moment. You also might look into 350 Legend, since ammo is fairly available for it.

I use a Remmington 700 (30-06 bolt action). Its accurate, reliable and packs a punch for deer hunting, no complaints, just a suggestion.

Tikka T3x for that price range! Absolutely beautiful rifle and made in my ancestral lands of Finland

I wish I bought that one way back when...

Huck_Farris 1 point ago +1 / -0

Didn't mean THAT particular model. I was choosing between Rem, Savage and Tikka.

? T3x is relatively new. It replaced the T3

I went with 6.5mm creedmoor. It has enough kick to take down big game but not too much kick to make sighting it in a nightmare bruised shoulder fest.

Smoothest bolt action you’ll ever use. Got mine at cabella’s.

Good luck finding one. Start small for that price. Last I looked a basic AR was $800 -$1000. But you could get a nice shotgun in that range.

None of my hunting rifles cost more than $500, my AR does.
