It's a leftist tactic. You advance a fact based argument. They don't have an effective response, so they demand that you provide them with proof to support your argument. The illogic behind it is if you can't find that study, or proof, then you must be "wrong" without them advancing an argument. It's a BS attempt to force you to back down.
I throw it back on them and demand that they advance an argument against my point if they disagree with it... And that demanding proof without debating is not refutation. I keep hammering them with this repeatedly until they give up.
I'm working on my doctorate degree, and have to use peer reviewed studies to back my papers and comments. These studies are not the definite answer that the left or anybody else make them out to be.
On a side note, I've downloaded and have gone through the paper that is the basis of the "97% consensus". The paper provides more than enough information to argue against the very thing people claim that paper argues.

Medicine is a mixed bag, and also depends on what field you're looking at, but probably is around 20-30% bullshit.
I've gotten that response. I listed examples of the fraud. They demanded that I provide proof. I told them that if they have issues with a point that I made, to argue against it. I also told them that I went through the relevant lawsuits and affidavits. They demanded a link. I told them to do an internet search instead of demanding that I give that information to them.
True story: I met a medical researcher who was in Washington, DC, to advocate for a wheelchair that would allow the rider to stand up. The committee he was seeing wanted a double-blind study on how this would improve the life of the handicapped person.
