WhatsAPP IS indeed secure....no Facebook cannot read your messages due to how the encryption key is stored locally. That said....it's FACEBOOK.
Signal is Open-Source too.

I use signal for a lot of my work comms. No real complaints about it. I started using it after I read an article about the aussies threatening to jail the founder for refusing to comply with a subpoena for someone’s communication.

Use signal, WhatsApp had to give their encryption key to Russia in order to allow them to operate in the country. I know guys who use it as a primary comm on military operations.
We will be using Uniden SX507 walkie talkies borrowed, with permission, from a local law enforcement stock pile.
Telegram is not secure tbh - however it works for temp. Signal and Element and WickrPro are the most secure. This is a legit head's up - BE AWARE of what you post in UNSECURE apps. Telegram is NOT I repeat NOT secure. It functions however for easy messaging etc... but if you really want encryption and total privacy end to end Signal, WickrPro and Element/Matrix.
Jitsi Meet works well for open source encrypted video conferencing and you don’t need to register with email or phone number or anything.
Only problem is you need to use any other app to say heys let’s talk now on this channel on jitsi.
Don’t even need to install an app if you don’t wish to.
Any thoughts on Matrix? Looks pretty solid to me.
Don't know much about it, but Signal has Jack Dorsey's endorsement on its home page. Not gonna trust that with a 10,000 foot stick.

Telegram is the only app that has appropriate functionality for messaging. Every other app is a disgrace with joke lacks of functionality like not being able to delete / edit messages, not being able to view messages past a certain date, not having a server where messages are saved forever, not having a desktop and mobile client in sync for transfer of files. Not being able to send files larger than 30MB, not being able to download music / YouTube videos and play them in a library.. etc. etc. Joke!! You can't be a serious power user if you don't use this app on a computer and if you don't use lightshot, clipdiary, ublock, tixati, mouse with backclick buttons, all keyboard shotcuts.. COME On I see people with so called PHDs in computer science and they don't do any of these things!! Complete Joke!!!! can't apply it to real life
