Some people are led to believe that Guilded is a viable alternative to Discord, but it is not.

I know communities that have used IRC and they have been successful in maintaining privacy and different rooms within the server. I think you could use Mibbit on mobile or other mobile applications for IRC.

You don't have to make your own. That's the point of Element/Matrix: it's open source, has web and mobile apps, and you can run your actual own server. They did 99% of the work for youso you can have all the benefits of your "own version of discord" with none of the programming required.
I came here to suggest Element also.
Element can be self hosted and you can use their Android and iOS apps. I had my own Element server running a while back when it was called Riot.

Understood, it's definitely an option. However I don't believe that a Matrix instance is the solution for every community, and I want to find solutions for every community, not just this one.
I'm not sure why it wouldn't be a solution for every community, especially as they still have the option to have them host your server like Discord does. But if nothing else; it's open source so if there's anything you think can be done better, you can fork it and add or change what you think needs changing. Sure beats starting from the ground up, unless you have some idea that's so radically different it'd be more work (such as a zeronet-based chat or something similar).
Except for Telegram to be decent you have to enable E2E encryption instead of the standard one, and set it up to self destruct messages after some time. Which the same amouunt of users who can't sign up for Element aren't going to do. The solution here is for pedes to not be retarded, instead of making the software retard proof. The people who run their own decentralized reddit alternative have the requirements for doing the same for a chat program, so that point is moot.
As for usability of the interface, pretty sure that improves all the time so it may already not be as bad as you remember. From what I see of Element, it's pretty similar to Discord in UI. I'm not a good judge of that anyhow, since my main use for talking to friends is using Matrix-commander instead and that runs in the terminal. I only suggest Element because it's closest to what people are already used to.
Hmm that’s sounds like a UX problem more than anything. Started to dig into it now, but they seem to have decent api docs. You might get away with creating a simplified registration.

Also, did the mods get my message about users being able share/subscribe to other users saved lists as a mechanism for quickly finding facts and statistics for debates with leftist? You build a saved list for a topic, say like I have an Election Fraud folder and a Hunter Biden folder. If I need to quick find something I read on here months ago, I just go to the folder. Would be cool to let other users have access to those saved lists.

Longtime Pede here who is running a movement/think-tank that got banned several times off Discord, gave up on Discord entirely. Can vouch that Guilded is the closest thing as of now in terms of interface/design to Discord.
PROS: It's still very low level and used only for gaming, not as popular meaning you'd be UNDER THE RADAR - there are only 13 employees running it - no third party audits scanning etc... so you can establish a hub there as we did for our own group.
CONS: Their TOS is pretty shit, but if you keep it Unpublished and restricted to only access people here - and have a good Mod team you can safely use it to your advantage.
By no means is it a permanent solution but it functions for what is required currently. Until something better crops up.

Skycoin has a telegram alternative in the works which will run over their encrypted Skywire meshnet.
