No longer allowed to live in the neighborhood that you want, only have access to crime ridden slums. No longer able to drive a car, that's a privilege, must use public transportation.
This way everyone falls in line without force being used. If you take political actions they don't like, you are no longer allowed in "polite society". They can call it hate speech, whatever. Eventually it won't matter what they call it, they could just say that your small criticism of the party was sedition and people will accept it. You can no longer advance in your career. You can't live where you want, drive what you want. Other people won't hang around with you, or they risk lowering their social credit scores. Nobody will do business with you. You won't be allowed in to certain shops without some sort of electronic device that displays you have enough social credit score. It's a perfect system for their everlasting hegemony.

But I've also saved the expenses of going to them - I put about 3500 less miles on my car this year.
