It's probably not a good idea to but if you plan on it anyway. Take it apart as you are transporting it that way you don't have a functions firearm with you if you get stopped. I don't know how well this will help you but it might save your ass. Also if you don't know how to disassemble and reassemble your firearms you probably shouldn't bring your firearm anyway.

It's legal to transport firearms as long as they are in a locked container separate from the ammo. The ammo must be in a locked container separate from the gun.

Also, you may need to have an end destination that allows you to have firearms.
