Why not just stop social security for a few months for both employers and employees - that encourages keeping businesses open and people working.

Trump tried suspending it, and got pushed back from ALL of congress.

People would wake up the the biggest scam in our nation real quick. Hmm, give 15% of all my income to the asshole feds to "take care of me" in my old age. When i could easily set that up in auto invest snp 500 index fund and have all my health care and retirement paid off and not pay one cent to the feds by 50 years old. Social security is a fucking scam. They dont even invest it, they just rob it.

Social Security goes to show how much of a scam the whole tax system is. Most people think that since it's "only" a few percent it's small compared to income tax. Fun fact: if you make under the media income in the US your social security tax is more than your income tax.

We need to abolish the withholding system. If people had to sit down and write separate checks to the government and social security administration every month, our taxes would be lower.

Far too many people think that a refund at the end of the year means the government pays them -- those people vote.

Yup.

And then when they get a tax cut, they say, "I got less money in my refund this year! Trump didn't cut taxes!"

These people vote.

Without social security I would have $2 million more than I have now and be thinking of retiring 10 years earlier.

I'm in Canada and it's the same shit tier system here. Die at age 64.5? Sorry your entire 300k principal and 750k total just goes to the government. But we give your kids 2500 for your funeral. I'm on pace to retire in my 40s if I wish and I literally just do simple vanguard ETFs and I'm way better than the government, and our government actually invests in the market!

But of course politics and "conservative" investing means they get 3% ROI after fees (funny the fees are also some of the highest for shit returns). It forces young people like me into way too conservative investment strategies. It also forces 2/3 of the fund in Canadian bonds and equities which underperform compared to USA. I made 40% ROI by buying the dip in March. The government is set to have a negative ROI this year. Fucking retards.

Yep and instead of suspending it they just made it allowed to be delayed until next year so everyone would have had to pay it back.

Trump (the executive branch) is limited to playing with an existing budget. They can't forgive any debt. Only congress can. And congress absolutely refused to forgive social security collections for a few weeks. Trump, as a businessman, actually understands the need to incentivize work. Understands that the best way to put money into the economy is to make people's labor earn them more.

Isn't the executive branch in charge of revenue collection? Couldn't trump just say fuck it and stop collecting?

Of course they did. This is a YUGE feeding trough for the piggies. Maybe one of the biggest. They're all rubbing their hands with glee, over the amounts they'll be able to skim off for themselves and their donors, who paid big to get a place at the trough.

The $600 isn't for us, don't be silly. It's a useless symbolic gesture for us, and another windfall for Amazon and retail as most of it will be spent on junk, just like the first checks were. (Besides, the $1200 checks weren't for people to survive on, the President told us it was to cover the costs of readjusting to the new normal of lockdowns and the rest of the covid lunacy.) (I guess you could hand your check over the Pfizer, if you're so inclined.)

I could go on, but I'll just stop here: We've known forever our Congress is corrupt. But now we have no reason to trust them, at all. They're going to kill our country, along with the rest of them. All they're good for is dog and pony show "hearings" and stealing money from us.

Think about this long and hard. Nobody in our government cares about us, is on our side, and supports and protects us. Not the Judicial, not the Legislative, and not most of the Executive. They're all hostile to us.

And they are not afraid if not getting reelected either. That was the last bit that connected them with any of their constituents needs. And that's over.

SS is theft anyway and no different than the Herbalife pyramid scheme. If people could put that money into a Roth instead they'd have much more to retire on, but "muh safety net".

LessAndLessIronic 4 points ago +4 / -0

More of a scam. At least Herbalife gives you bullshit bottles of herbs.
