Unless you're one of the people that coded it, neither are you. People are just taking the statements made by an anonymous source "it's 100% super duper secure, trust us" at face value. Dominion voting machines said the same thing.
They can just make more bitcoin. People will scream out "but it's backed by math. There is no way they can make more".
I bet maybe a handful of us would be knowledgeable enough about bitcoin to even begin to understand it though to even suspect something
No they can't. You clearly don't understand how bitcoin works. There is a cap (I think the number is 30 million but I could be remembering wrong).
The mining algorithm doesn't work if you change the cap.

I don't think it's fair to say you can't be familiar with the code if you didn't actually code it.
