A liberal acquaintance is a “comedian” and got very upset when I told him his Trump jokes were “so brave, so woke.”
I acted like a standup critic: “His jokes about Trump Were groundbreaking. It is refreshing to see someone criticize the President, rather than coddle him. No telling how the public may react to such new material. I would advise the comic to avoid public appearances for a while. But given his bravery in sharing these jokes, I don’t expect him to listen.”
She appears to be off the opinion that all black people belong in Africa and that generations of living elsewhere isn't enough to erase the inherent differences of skin color.
At least that the only logical conclusion I can come up with.
I think it is cool to be connected to your heritage. You can be 100% American but serve Italian food as part of Thanksgiving, or wear African patterned clothing, or teach your kids a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. We have a tradition of sharing all these traditions, that made America beautiful. Those traditions should be shared not ignored. I think of my grandmother who learned how to cook the best lasagna from her Italian neighbors, and brisket from her Jewish neighbor. They all lived side by side, and respected each other, but they were all American, and sent their sons to fight WWII, without questioning it.
I'm pretty much totally disconnected from my heritage. I'm a mutt so there's no one culture to point to.
When I was filling out the census online it asked for my race. I put white. It asked me from where. I said, "America."
Then it pushed for my nationality. It actually went to another screen where it wanted me to choose English, Irish, Welsh, German, etc.
I went to the "other" box and wrote "AMERICAN."
I've got relatives going waaaay back. Everyone came here, fell in love with other new people, made babies, and lived their lives. There was no 'back home' as far as I know. We do have old letters and journals and NOBODY talked about their past. We do know that one great, great grandmother was from India. She married an Irish sailor who was working with the East India Company, went with him to Ireland, then the two of them came to America. They were my grandfather's grandparents. They were living in the present, not wallowing or pining for the past.
Pisses me off when someone sees my last name and think I come from a foreign land. Bitch, I'm American. I didn't come here from anywhere, I was born and lived here my whole life
Their awareness is stunning.

It's subtle, but I picked up a hint of sarcasm there....

“Idk why you thought of this”. I bet she finds herself not knowing why things are happening often.

And that's okay, too.
I totally agree, we can enjoy the culture of our past or our neighbors and still be American.
kek
Lol. I’m not Italian because my parents were born there, but you’re African because someone in 1723 was born there.
Honk honk.
She claims to be Russian and Canadian though...
LOL
That was PERFECT
Typical libshit response
Follow it up with a Why? for a tiny short circuit.
