everyone always imagines they will end up on top. That's the only way anyone can advocate for socialism and communism... they internally assume they will be the ones on top making the rules and enjoying the profits of others.
I used to live in a university town and that was exactly the propaganda put out by the communists who ran the bookstore where all the students bought books assigned by their marxist professors.
They had a poster that they printed on a xerox machine that said "be ready for when history makes that dialectical jump and puts you in the driver's seat!"
I went in there and gloated in person when the Berlin Wall fell. fond memories; good times.
