We have dozens of chat groups popping up, this is not ideal. Having TD.win is ideal because EVERYONE can coordinate as a "team". Creating dozens of chat groups where only small portions of people migrate to is spreading us out unnecessarily. There needs to be a chat server or group the TDW community makes "official".
If we're going to create chat groups, everyone should be on the same page. As I mentioned in a previous post, we could always create our own rocket.chat server. Having the TDW website is amazing, now we need to do the same with a chat. One official TDW website and one official TDW chat (and backups obviously) is the only way.
This can be an option: https://computingforgeeks.com/how-to-install-rocket-chat-server-on-debian-ubuntu/?amp
This is a great idea. Thanks for taking the time to post this info. I'm looking for a suitable chat client for my SaaS and another development. If you have experience in implementing this and want some work, get in touch. Thanks again!
Thanks Pede, but my technical knowledge only goes so far. I can research like a mother fuckn' boss though. That being said, if you need someone to research, I'm your man.
That is a talent in itself. Good research is valuable. I have worked with developers and most do little research, can't think outside of their boxes, rarely see the big picture, and I have to hold their hands they step of the way. I'm looking to install a free chat client for this project and another one following. Maybe you could research the best client for either. I was looking at Matrix.
Also, here is a decent blog discussing some self hosted chat options. https://www.troopmessenger.com/blogs/top-self-hosted-chat-software#TroopMessenger
Cool. Thanks for this.
