What the hell is going on in this country we had reservations at the Hyatt Regency right by the capital for the fifth through the seventh they canceled our reservations last night at 1:30 in the morning. So I got a hold of them today and they said they were shut down completely. I mean what the duck is going on. Anyone else had there’s canceled? Now what the hell am I supposed to do with plane tickets and no place to stay.

Eastern edge of West Virginia is under a 2 hour drive from DC. You can stay out of Virginia and Maryland that way.
DE is only a hr and 45 min drive from central de to dc. Plenty of rooms at dover downs and they are nice! I hope you can find something closer, but they will probably start shutting down all hotels near dc from the 5th to the 7th just as a big FU to us, but at least they did it now and not the day of check in early in the morning, be prepared for a lot of fuckery. But they can't stop whats's coming!

From the dc metro area. The mayor made an announcement Friday or Saturday that all restaurants & bars were to go on full lockdown for the next three weeks. It’s likely that they will try to shut the whole city down, metro included. If you stay in northern Virginia, you can walk to downtown DC even if the metro gets closed. Not sure what they can do if people start camping on the national mall... it should be federal property not DC property.

I went back and forth o flying vs. driving. Cheap flights vs. long drive meant about the same overall $, but I'm pretending to work on Tues and Thurs so I decided to save the time and fly. My hotel is in VA close to Reagan National, the subway entrance, and the crossing over Potomac. I think being NoVA they won't cancel my room. I've got three methods planned to get into DC.
If they cancel fllights, I will get in my truck and get there regardless, it will just take a lot longer.

Try the Hyatt Centric in Arlington, VA. It’s about as close as you can get to DC. Approx. 1 mile from White House. My reservation is still good!

So hotels will let you cancel days after you get in if it's 24hrs before. If you're booking 5-7th they know. Book 5-9th then cancel 2 days when you arrive.

Arlington, VA has plenty of hotels available. I would count on driving if possible though, or see if you can switch your flight to Newport News or another nearby airport.
