There are multiple different ways of taxing things, and you do have an excellent point that income tax could be lessened or completely removed, but you would at least need to introduce or increase other kinds of taxes (such as VAT, on trading, land taxes, etc. etc. etc.). I saw some time ago a graph over the income for the USA from different kinds of taxes over the centuries, and as far as I recall, the income tax was zero or very small until the latter part of the graph. And it is not at all something that one can take for granted that income tax should be large or even non-zero reg. financing the government.
As for the current system, not only is the approach to taxing important, but also who the taxes go to. It is extremely important that taxes do not go to those people who are (very/extremely or more) evil, for obvious reasons, including that they seek to enslave and exterminate you.
And there are other problems; resisting hostile take-over of government and society as well as resisting certain kinds of external threats is much easier if you have a genuine nation. As it is, the USA and much of the Western world is not just divided-and-conquered in all kinds of ways to an extreme degree, but almost atomized. And this is in no way whatsoever what would happen without interference nor any kind of accident. How you then shape a meaningful nation is then not necessarily an easy question. Might it make sense to look at the kinds of people that can create a strong and competitive (and other very much needed and required attributes reg. survival both short-term and long-term, for the country itself and also things overall) nation, and the kinds of people that cannot do so, and go from there? For instance, Japan seems to do decently well in many ways, so such people may be good constituents to a meaningful, strong, etc. etc. etc. nation. But all these things are not at all easy in multiple different ways.

It can be fixed, it just takes effort the majority aren't willing to engage in. It would require marching, in large groups, into congress and every state capitol, county, city council, and "committee" around the nation that is actively working against the population and removing them. Then we hold another election where only people that are proven to have the best intentions of the country at heart are allowed to run.
The problem isn't that this can't be fixed, it's that people are not willing to do what is not only necessary to fix this but take the actions that will put the appropriate level of fear back into those we elect to make sure they remember who they actually work for.
How would you possibly manage that though? Remember ACB? Barr? They look great right up until they don't. Possibly all due to threats, but nothing is going to stop that.
The fact that their predecessor was just forcefully removed, and presumably executed in the most painful way possible like tar and feathering while being pushed out into the desert, is one of those ways to get the assholes that want to pretend to be for us to think twice.

Just FYI, there is precedent for floating money around the world. After WW2, part of the Marshall plan was to basically fund European growth through USD 'loans' in local currency without Europeans having to use dollar reserves. It was a convoluted way to ensure US industry dominance. I bet you China is doing that right now.
