Don't rely on the airlines. They are likely to shutdown the week of January 6th.

Come early if you're flying in.

If they shut down, I will drive.

Come hell or high water, I will be there.

The DC Mayor shut down the dining rooms again all the way until Jan 15th, so expect to be only able to get carry out or bring food with you even.

How about canned food - like corned beef in the heavy-duty cans you open with the little key thing? Coupled with some cheese.

In a small cloth bag to keep from stinking everything up.

There is a 12a to 5a curfew in VA, state police are writting tickets between those hours for violating the curfew, even for out of staters. I have been helping a buddy fix up his house in VA and was heading home at 1a, got a ticket, with "fine to be determined" written on it. DO NOT LET THAT DETER YOU, I just want to let ya'll know what BS is going down in VA. MD has some ass-nine covid regs too, got a $500 fine there as well for not having my "covid papers"

Finally somebody(s) who understand that 100 people working in unison are worth more than 1000 well-intentioned people acting separately.

Where are the ham radio operators willing to provide comms? While I'm all in favor of a million pedes descending on Washington, we should have another million providing support.

Get on repeaterbook.com and program in the repeaters along the way. Let me know if you need any help. Also, although it isn't legal to transmit on the FRS/GMRS frequencies I highly recommend programming them in, as well as the MURS frequencies.

I_Used_to_be_me 7 points ago +8 / -1

These will probably be dumb questions, but I'll ask anyway, because I'm unable to attend (which I'm really angry about, because — and this may sound crazy — but I've been expecting/anticipating an event like this since I was a teenager, ~2005, and always felt it'd happen and be my duty to be part of it... anyway) but still feel obligated to help/contribute in any way (as I noted, I've always felt this sense of duty around an event/time like this occurring in my lifetime).

So, to the question: For someone who is tech savvy, but never used a ham radio... is it something I could pick up fairly quickly, and is there anything useful I can do from my home/not being in DC, with one? I have access to one (my grandfather, always been big into it. In fact, he was an electrical engineer during the Korean War, and largely handled things related to comms, etc), and again, am willing to do anything that could be helpful for this event, but I've never used one in any capacity (playing with the police scanner as a kid is about. as close as it gets lol; but again, I'm very tech savvy in a number of other areas and pick things like this up quickly)

Anyone willing to answer these questions, or let me know if/how I might be able to help/serve and fulfill my duty, please let me know! If this fell on literally any day other than Wednesday at the beginning of a new year, I'd absolutely be there, but I unfortunately just can't make the logistics work (which really sucks, because my dad recently retired and would go, but he told me he'll only go if I'm going/if we go together)

Cutter 2 points ago +2 / -0

I just posted the MURS and FRS/GMRS frequencies in another part of this thread. I think the MURS channels would be best for point-to-point comms, with the FRS channels for backup since most people who don't have ham-band-capable radios (like the Baofeng family) will probably have blister pack walkie-talkies that use those channels. Your Baofeng on FRS "should" be set to 1W output so as not to overpower the weaker radios.

Also anyone with the 22 channel fixed-antenna walkie talkies please note that the "privacy" settings PREVENT YOU FROM HEARING OTHERS who do not have the privacy setting turned on, not the other way around!

I was watching a Live-Feed from a patriot event and at some point someone in the chat box identified an Antifa-type who was skulking around the various MAGA people. I recall he said he was sending proof (maybe a private message) and they really did go confront the 'Spy' or agitator or whatever he was up to.

That was amazing to my mind. Someone maybe halfway across the country made a real difference via the internet online feeds. Who knows but the 'undercover antifa' may well have been a very real danger.

I'm onboard with that, a million Pedes who can rumble in-person but anyone who can do anything with support, information, intelligence, if they can coordinate, if someone on the ground wants to know "Where can we get XYZ" let someone be able to tweet or text that, etc etc all sorts of things can be done.

1
Cutter 1 point ago +1 / -0

That's EXACTLY the kind of attitude of cooperation we need! We all tend to be stupid from time to time, so not only do we ALL need to make sure that whatever needs to be done is being addressed, but also that no IDEAS are overlooked.

One of the things that really rankled my hide was hearing about people who attended Trump rallies being harassed and/or attacked on their way to their vehicles. Here you have thousands of like-minded individuals, and they don't have the common sense to form groups and protect one another?!??

1

I doubt anyone thinks it will be a walk in the park, which is exactly why we are talking about things like communication. I could argue that since the DC police has fully automatic weapons and MRAPs, there's no sense in even going, but instead I encourage you to learn from history. For example, a time when a determined rag-tag group of part-time soldiers defeated the British army.

I used to own a Cherokee "Heavy" -- PA32-260, with empty weight 1680, useful load 1720 !!!! Six adults, 2 doors, 2 baggage compartments, 2 scoops. 150 MPH for almost 1000 miles -- way back in 1966. Single VOR/ILS, single 90 channel COMM, nothing else. No Xpndr required and GPS hadn't been invented yet.

Once flew from KSMO to Nova Scotia -- 3 1/2 weeks, 60 airports.

Wishing all pedes, both land bound and airborne, best of luck!!

1
wuper 1 point ago +1 / -0

That’s definitely a "heavy"! (Not officially though, you aren’t a 747 😂😂)

Sounds like a beautiful bird that can fit a lot of people and take a lot of baggage.

1
GoldwaterVoter 1 point ago +1 / -0

The PA-32 was later re-named Saratoga when they added retractable landing gear. So when ATC called me "Saratoga ...." because the flight plan had to use "PA32" I always replied "Cherokee ..." they thought I was a smaller PA-28 Cherokee, so I would respond with "Cherokee heavy ...". Then they called me by right model name!

The Cherokee Six we bought in 1966 was $18,500 + $2500 for radios, for total of $21,000 - before lawyers bankrupted Piper and Cessna when widows sued them when their idiot husbands flew into T-storms, and stupid juries made outrageous awards.

I bought a used 1966 Cherokee Six in 2004 -- this one with Rajay turbo-normalizers, which kept sea level HP up to 16,000 ft altitude. Normal cruise at 12,500 ft. was raised from 150 MPH to 180 MPH. Not bad for wide fuselage, six seats and an aisle down the middle, plus gear hanging down! Gave up flying in 2011.

wuper 1 point ago +1 / -0

Man that seems like a good deal for what you’re getting! Wow!

Airlines are starving, they will gladly fly everyone there. The no refunds thing they got sued over during Covid, and lost, badly.

2
CuomoisaMassMurderer 2 points ago +2 / -0

Don;t be afraid to try, but do expect a coordinated effort to stop us / minimize our presence. Every step of the way. Caravans of 50 vehicles to make sure we heavily outnumber anyone trying to interfere is good strategy.

2
rossiFan 2 points ago +3 / -1

Yep, my brother works for AA in Vegas. Flights are still way down. 9000 flight crew furloughed. They'll take what they can get.

2
ZerroDefex 2 points ago +3 / -1

Not to mention there is still going to be flight traffic not related to the rally before, during and after and shutting down flights will make all the normies mad as well. Anyone who thinks they'd shut down flights for a whole week just to spite Trump supporters is being paranoid and probably a doomer, if they could it would have already happened during previous rallies. They couldn't even stop domestic flights during the worst of the COVID shutdowns in states.

3
CuomoisaMassMurderer 3 points ago +3 / -0

This isn't a rally. There's also a new wave of panic afoot. Put nothing past their nefariousness.

8
ZerroDefex 8 points ago +10 / -2

I highly doubt that they'd shut down airlines the entire week, if even the day of, it'd cause way to much disruption and those airlines are barely hanging on as it is. Anyhow if you're worried about the DC airport itself there are plenty other airports within a short driving distance of DC as well, also DC's inane COVID restrictions don't apply to travel from Virginia and Maryland so there's another reason not to fly into DC directly.

8
befehlistbefehl 8 points ago +10 / -2

Ha, they can just bail out the airlines with your money.

2
ZerroDefex 2 points ago +3 / -1

Oh true but there is too much non-rally traffic that'd disrupt as well and they're not going to shut down all flights in the tri-state area for a week and piss off all the normies as well. States that are still technically in COVID lockdown are still getting increased numbers of flights going in and out. This is selectively paranoid like the people talking about "don't use your phone in DC" while the agencies have plenty of other ways to know if you were there or not.

2
CuomoisaMassMurderer 2 points ago +2 / -0

Facial recognition is mitigated by masks. Licence plates / EZ- Pass identification doesn't link you together with social credit score type tracking. Cell phone on free wifi network lets them connect you directly to online presence / persona and any profile they have.

That's sensible, not paranoia. Avoiding the development of such a profile via burner phone may be cheap security for many.

5
Nobuttsaboutit 5 points ago +5 / -0

There is no airport in DC, fyi. Of three major airports serving the city, two are in Virginia and one is in Maryland.

3
ZerroDefex 3 points ago +3 / -0

Regan counts as being in DC and have the silly "14-day self-quarantine if no recent PCR test" nonsense. The other airports in VA and MD do not.

1
CuomoisaMassMurderer 1 point ago +1 / -0

So anybody flying into Reagan would be barred from entering DC how?

4
incogneato 4 points ago +4 / -0

I highly doubt that they'd shut down airlines the entire week, if even the day of, it'd cause way to much disruption

fren... have you noticed the state of the USA, and much of the world, over the last nine solid months?? We never thought any of that could possibly happen, either.

They will stop at nothing to shut down the Jan. 6 protest. NOTHING

1

Lexington -> Hebron -> Indianapolis -> Chicago -> Houston -> Louisiana -> Atlanta -> Hebron -> Lexington

I had a package this year just vanish in Utah, it was a week late when I contacted the vendor about it and they had to send out a replacement. Right now I have another package that sat in LA for a week before finally heading towards the Midwest with no explanation.

3
anon1011101 3 points ago +3 / -0

My buddies wife started talking about "their" carbon footprint is the reason they wouldn't wrap their kids Christmas presents this year. I laughed in her face because I thought she was joking. Turns out she wasn't. Hope I didn't lose my fishing buddy! Seriously. MAGA

If she wants to make her own soap and shit thats fine, but the only way you are going to do anything carbon positive is if you go jawa on a power plant in Chyna.

16
SecondFlamingo22 16 points ago +18 / -2

Exactly, I'm pretty supportive of people that want to reduce their waste and pollute less because hey, I like the great outdoors, but carbon neutral is a pipe dream. And not the hunter kind

10
Nimblestpepe 10 points ago +11 / -1

Ive been curious why "consumerism" seemed to be thrown around in the 90s but now its not. I'm of the mindset of only using what I need and buying things built to last. But it doesnt have anything to do with carbon foot prints

7
SecondFlamingo22 7 points ago +8 / -1

But it doesnt have anything to do with carbon foot prints

For me it's a little of both. I don't care about calculating my carbon output overall, that seems asinine. I do however keep in mind that everything I throw away doesn't just disappear. I try to maintain my lifestyle in a way that if my waste disposal service all of a sudden stopped I wouldn't be sitting in a pile of trash.

Beyond that, the economics and just plain convenience of not having to buy new shit all the time has encouraged me to buy stuff that lasts.

2
Nimblestpepe 2 points ago +3 / -1

Yeah I get it. I look at our trashcan and thwn look at the neighbors and wound wtf

6
Scroon 6 points ago +6 / -0

The 90s movement against consumerism resulted from that particular 80s awareness that corporations were taking over our minds and the world.

The green/carbon footprint bullshit is actually a misdirection to counter awareness of excessive buying. It is "new consumerism" in disguise.

To save the world you need to buy all new stuff. A new Tesla. New solar cells. That new product that's supposed to be carbon neutral but actually just bought off some third world country's carbon credits.

The message is to buy green, but it's still buying.

Seriously, for example keeping an old gas car running for years is wayyyy better for the environment than buying a new electric vehicle.

3
rossiFan 3 points ago +4 / -1

Same. I buy Toyota because they just don't fucking break. I use less energy in my house because I hate huge energy bills. It's about money, not car-bunz fooot-printz......

-2
Updoot -2 points ago +1 / -3

It's not hunters fault, if you saw your father constantly molest your sister you would probably retreat into substance abuse as well. Not many are strong enough to fight back against something they are supposed to respect.

1
CuomoisaMassMurderer 1 point ago +1 / -0

Nobody's supposed to respect Jim Crow Joe. At age 5, Hunter could do nothing. By 15?

He's not an innocent victim.

Jawas were the little three foot tall alien dudes in brown robes on Tatooine in Star Wars. They resold technological equipment that they stole or scavenged - sometimes back to the same victim.

I don't have any problem with someone going "green". I'm working towards it myself.

But I don't have any disillusions that my use of a well, or composting, or growing my food is doing ANYTHING to help the planet at large.

3

Only once have I've seen someone rent on and it was because they were having a few dozen guests but the house only had one working bathroom at the time.

Jesus at least use old newspapers. What a Grinch

5
Varangian 5 points ago +5 / -0

That’s what my gramma did. She’d save the “funny papers” every Sunday (they were in color) and wrap all her gifts to us kids. If she got a gift with fancy wrapping paper she’d save it too along with any ribbon. She threw away very little. She kept a little bucket of corn cobs and an old Sears catalog in the bathroom as a joke. (I think)

3
Hangemh1gh 3 points ago +5 / -2

Couldn't agree more. Never mind the packaging most crap comes in. She's impervious to reason.

1
christianknight 1 point ago +2 / -1

She probably watched TV all day and thinks she's educates

3
NazisWereSocialist 3 points ago +3 / -0

Meanwhile I bet she does tons of shit that’s wasteful like wrapping paper, she’s just not wrapping presents because it’s work and she’s willing to ruin Christmas.

Depending on what airport that you're at. The least efficient and laziest TSA I've ever seen were at Dallas-Love airport, they made the staff at Chicago Midway look professional. San Antonio airport was fine and efficient though but nothing beat the efficiency at Las Vegas McCarran.

2
DiscoverAFire 2 points ago +2 / -0

I always take a full tube. Occasionally they give me shit "omg this isn't allowed etc etc". So I ask if they want it, and they tell me no, to be more careful next time, and send me on my way.
