This is exactly how I feel. I was raised to believe we were a country of mavericks. We were the country that put personal liberty above all things, we were the ONLY country where the people were allowed to say whatever stupid damn thing they wanted to anyone who would listen, we were the country that by design vested within the people the power to forcibly resist any government that would try to harm us. I was raised to believe that I lived in the one country that was truly free.
This last year has been so hurtful to my faith in this country. I have watched in real time the freedoms and values of this great nation disappear quietly into the night. What scares me isn't that it's happening, power corrupts it was inevitable. What scares me is that very few people are actively putting their foot down and saying no. What scares me is the the America I was raised to love will fade and nobody will even fight to defend it.
