Story Time:

Once back when I was in the military a looong time ago I heard guys talking about how they got a high value target out of his biggish workplace without giving the enemy time to react.

They apparently couldn't get to him at home because of the setup there

Anyways, they targetted some other random employee at their home had them walk them into the building then they just grabbed the actual target and GTFO.

  • Fun story, not related to anything but thought I'd share some old memories.

Yup, common access is a bitch for security. Good strategy to be sure but typically risky because you probably don’t have a good profile on the rando and they could be a secret badass.

I’m far from a badass, but I am aware of this fact, so when I get fucked with I step back square up, and wait for the fucker to also square up. I then turn around and run as fast as I can (which I had actually been prepping for) because concrete is an unforgiving bitch, and I do cardio.

You have common sense and are thinking on your feet (literally). That is the sign of a badass in an equally important way, IMHO.

TLDR: Hard to do.

Big tech usually takes itself out with a piss poor planned upgrade other own-goal screw up.

Why finding their servers is not helpful

Servers are in large server buildings called co-location facilities (aka: Colo, pronounced Ko-Low) and probably not owned by Twitter or Google or Facebook or any of the rest of Big Tech.

They rent the rack space, air conditioning and power but can bring in their own fiber to connect privately back to the rest of their network.

A reconnaissance could happen if you are in Information Technology or Management enough to speak the speech and ask for a tour of the facility, presumably to investigate a business plan to put servers there. This would only cover one server farm room, and you may never even get close to the room or floor with the Big Tech Servers. Companies of moderate size rent entire rooms and they are the only ones with access. There's a credibility issue too, as most companies are stampeding to "the Cloud" these days rather than their own computers.

But let's say you pull this off. It'll be at one server colo and Big Tech will have hundreds of these. Let's say you figure out a way to take the next step and knock it out. The load will move to one of the other buildings Big Tech rents at and there will hardly be a blip.

Big tech usually takes itself out with a piss poor planned upgrade other self-goal screw up.

20
FreeBased1 20 points ago +21 / -1

Dude. You've never been in an actual data center, have you? 🙄🤔

Sure, google, apple microsoft, twitter, Amazon and others have some leased space for edge nodes in colos all over. (I think many people would be surprised at the (small) size of some colos that big tech uses.

But they most definitely DO own their own buildings. I've worked inside of many of them, each company named above and others.

I've got (secret spy) photos from many of them. I've sold them a lot of the equipment that runs their platforms...making me part of the problem I guess?

But you're right, there's lots of redundancy and you'd need a coordinated "visit" to several locations.

I just wanted to flex my IT Knowledge 👍👌

Have a good day, sir!

16
800080 16 points ago +17 / -1

Dude. You've never been in an actual data center, have you?

Some 30 odd years worth, mostly on site data centers but including renting space in colos and other shared facilities.

The IT business is big enough that your experience and mine are different.

We at least agree, we're not going to visit a facility or two and knock out Big Tech.

marishiten 2 points ago +4 / -2

Google owns their own colo facilities and I don't think Facebook/Twitter use Rackspace/AWS hardware. I'm pretty sure they own their own servers.

Besides, there's so much redundancy built into those machines that even if you hit one building (those buildings are guarded, day and night, by armed security, by the way. There's multiple buildings around my area that are colo and they don't fuck around), the next one would just come online and take over. They have mirrors all over the world.

1
MarcelMulder 1 point ago +1 / -0

It is not that hard to knock n their servers down. It is the same as TDW, we just have to unite.

1
Smug_zebra 1 point ago +2 / -1

It would require something like the end of fight club. We would have to destroy potentially 100+ buildings in the US alone.

You still shouldn't be burning books. Let the books be out there so people can read them and see what twisted ideology is being presented by who.

If you burn books, people will cry victim and garner support. Shit goes underground and you can't see who supports what.

3
Poopybuttboy 3 points ago +3 / -0

1

No one cares? Who are the thousands of pedes on this website?

Didn't Reddit banning TD bring us here and make us 1000x stronger?

1
Poopybuttboy 1 point ago +1 / -0

The original donald sub was dominating the front pages of reddit daily. We had our message in front of the uninformed masses and the opposition. You think we are stronger then ever, holed up in our own little corner of the internet talking to ourselves in an echo chamber?

Wars are all about information. We have such a tiny amount of soldiers on the big battlefields and everyday more and more get removed. They are destroying us. We even had to abandon Fox, the only foothold conservatives had in mainstream media...

3
lokiodinson 3 points ago +3 / -0

For others who come across this comment and don't know...

The books being burned were full of bullshit promoting transgenders, commie/marxist indoctrination, etc. Basically all the typical leftist bullshit of today, degenerating our culture and destroying the world.

The book burning was a good thing.

Today's equivalent of the book burning would be to remove all the tranny + commie/marxist propaganda from schools, internet, movies, tv, etc.

People "on the right" need to stop parroting off talking points written by the same people who want to destroy us.

This is so out of control. They needs to be reprimanded hard for it, broken up even.

I suspect they know Trump wants to do it during his second term, so they're going all in to prevent him from doing so.

They're basically committing foreign influence into our electoral process because a lot of their mods are not even American nationals.

Screw Twitter and Facebook. And Youtube. And Paypal. And etc

2
Rufus_Shinra 2 points ago +2 / -0

This is modeled off Chinese communist control systems. The leftists salivate over the control they have over their 1 billion citizens, and they want that Control over Americans.

2
alucard13mmfmj 2 points ago +2 / -0

Theyll use social media to influence us or futute generations to give up our guns and our border.. thus they can have total control.

-4
bbgunz123 -4 points ago +1 / -5

You want the government to punish a privately owned company for enforcing a contract that both parties signed because you don't like it? So how long have you been a communist exactly?

4
HiddenHand 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yes, precisely, and don't play that communist card with me, I don't play your game. As far as I know, foreign influence into an election is still illegal.

These social media form what can be likened to monopolies of the digital public space, as evidenced by aggressive acquisitions and attacks against competitors.

They then use their position of power to control the narrative and run interference into political discourse. Most of the times, moderators are not even American nationals yet censor political speech from only one side.

Nah, they need to go. And when you run a monopoly, this "mutually agreed upon contract" does not apply when no alternative solution exists.

They need to be regulated heavily and punished for the propaganda they're currently running.

You can call me a communist all you like, shill. Truth is, censoring political speech because of an agenda is the real communism here.

2
FormerGraveheart 2 points ago +2 / -0

This is one of the common shill tactics. Pretend to worship free enterprise above all else, and try to use it against us. Just deport.

-3
deleted -3 points ago +1 / -4
3
HiddenHand 3 points ago +3 / -0

Twitter and co. engage in political interference, I don't care about your accusations, projections, deflections, and personal attacks. I stand by my statement and do so firmly. As I said, foreign influence of an election is still, as far as I know unless you tell me otherwise, illegal and should be severely punished.

I was more or less agreeing with you prior to this entire election mess. Now I don't given everything that's happening in the past few weeks (or years, really). And yeah, Twitter sells ads and user data, are you this fucking dense to think they're a happy-go-lucky kind of business who doesn't sell anything. How naive, really. You're the fucking product, wake up dumb ass.

And don't get me started with the "yeah there are alternatives like Parler, eyeEm, etc". That doesn't work because none of them are functional and scalable enough to assume support big enough numbers of users. Youtube, for example, operates at a loss simply due to the data hosting capacity they need to assume. No other solution even comes close to competing with them. They are essentially a monopoly, and yes I understand this is debatable and you will want to angrily berate me about this. I just don't agree with your counter-argument and certainly not with how you present your arguments.

And also, stop projecting yourself onto me. I'm not a fucking communist like you seem to be so trigger-happy about accusing me. I'm not moved at all by your tamper tantrum and you're not even coming close to make me reconsider my statement. You just suck at delivering arguments.

All you're proving me to me, right now, is that you're okay with foreign controlled companies censoring political speech on only one side in the US. You support Youtube censoring all and any video mentioning even a doubt of an irregularity. You support Twitter banning people asking perfectly normal questions of the very odd...happenings around the election. You also support social media leaders and owners creating little secret groups where they coordinate on who to censor, at what time, and so on. You support Google modifying search results to push a political narrative, and lie about to Congress and the Senate. Yeah, I'm precisely and strong against that, and I support punishing them harshly for it.

No foreign company should ever be allowed to censor political speech of another country on one side only, especially in a critical moment like this where as many points of view are needed to understand the situation. Ever wondered why one side feels completely muted, cancelled, and that talks about civil war are ramping up? Yeah, that's a lot on the social media. Your best friends you seem to get so angry about when someone mentions that they maybe, just MAYBE, should be held accountable for their actions.

You are using typical shill tactics trying to paint me as my actual enemy. I'm not a communist. I oppose them vehemently and I also oppose you for that low IQ tantrum you're throwing right now.

And screw your illogical and immature libertarianism. Maybe one day you will grow out of this stupid ideology just like I did when I was younger. Yep, I used to be quite libertarian until I grew up, gained valuable life experience, and considered more mature points of view. Don't get me wrong, more liberty is always good and I 100% support this. But this branch of no-compromise-libertarianism is just plain stupid and mostly comes from younger people before they get more life experience.

Unfortunately, you sound like those low IQ people (or maybe you're just a shill) who only see things in black or white. In your mind, something is either anti-communist or pro-communist without any in-between or consideration for alternative points of view. That's how it works in your mind, but reality isn't this way, luckily.

Also, why all the anger. Maybe you need some anger management classes. I bet they're all offered online now. You seem a angry man.

2
iDinduNuffin 2 points ago +2 / -0

Only the moral are eligible for freedom.

The pathetic libertarian hand wringing doesn't matter. They can already do whatever they want, they don't give a shit about "government powers" or "precedent". It's just a formality at best.
