Also, a significant chunk of millionaires are school teachers, because America is the greatest nation on earth and we've built the best system with the most wealth and greatest lifestyle known to mankind. The teachers that become millionaires save money their entire life, invest their savings and build up a strong 401k. By the second half of their life, they become millionaires by living a frugal life and investing their savings. The American Dream baby, for everyone and anyone willing!

Once everything drops like a rock, I'm thinking 25% of the whole market just evaporates due to "uncertainty".. it'll only take a few days to a week for the normals to realize Orange Man indeed good, and stocks shoot up.

So. when it crashes. buy the ride down. Or buy at a point you think is low or buy on the way down or the way up. You do whatever you want. Just buy.

My AARK is up 70% since July. Bought CRSP just last month an it’s already up 75% just since then. Nervously holding because I don’t want to sell until after Jan 1. I wouldn’t touch NIO, BABA etc right now because if Trump wins re-election the China stocks will probably tank.

Not really correct with the facts there...

You need over 10 million in net worth to be in the 1%

The 10% bracket cutoff is 1.2 million, meaning 10% of the households in the U.S. have a net worth of at least 1.2 million.

Consider that those in Congress are generally well-connected through business and social circles. It comes as not great surprise that they are wealthy.

AND, they also tend to be OLD. Older people have much greater net worth than younger people. 76% of millionaires are over 60 while 15% are younger than 50.

All of that adds up to... it is no great surprise that those on Congress have money.

Information about wealth is calculated on households. We TALK about how rich individuals are but the government looks at the households.

That would mean the net worth of those in Congress is actually the net worth of their household too.

BTW, I am a millionaire if you look at household net worth. But I would in no way be considered RICH.

I live in Georgia and all I hear about is Perdue and Loeffler and their stock trades.

Neither did anything wrong. Frankly, Loeffler is so loaded it seems laughable that someone would create a ruckus over a million here and there - except for the optics. But still, nothing illegal.

But that is all that Warnock and Ossoff are running in their ads. Trying to gin up envy and class warfare.

Pisses me off. I hope Warnock goes down in flames and loses his pulpit too. Ossoff... I hope his pajamas are not flame retardant and he is standing close to Warnock when he bursts into flames,

OP, you are correct and I used to focus on this. But more important the option to insider trade (not a sure thing in the end, and you have to have money to invest first) is the utter corruption of it all. husbands that work at hedge funds and wives that are deans of colleges, all getting big payouts from the government, and THAT'S ALSO NOT THE WORST. Children and uncles of politicians getting payouts from China and lobbies for pharmaceuticals, ex-Presidents getting home loans they don't end up paying back. The corruption to buy our politicians goes on and on. Then there are phony book deals, tv deals, and board seats that pay 3 million dollar advances (never have to be paid back) or that pay $50,000 per month for "advice" on how to run a company. And on and on.

We need to create a list of stuff like this, exactly how they enrich themselves at our expense. A list of the laws and loopholes they exploit and then we make the demand that they are fixed by mass demonstrations. It's time to end the political elite's stranglehold on power in their country. I'm tired of watching them enrich themselves and their family and friends while doing fuck all for us.

I am not American but I wonder if there are rules that say if you are in an influential US civil servant job, you must sell all stocks you own (so that you cannot be biased in your decisions that effect the country).

I imagine that some investments like retirement funds would be allowed as the money is invested in many different businesses, so the only way to make money via that way was to generally improve the stock market/economy as a whole.

I am not a financial advisor or anything like that so feedback from Americans would be much appreciated.

That would be great. It's not fair to say that they shouldn't be allowed to invest at all, so large diverse mutual funds should be allowed. There are no laws like that now.

In fact, congress is exempted from insider trading laws, so they can't be prosecuted even if they buy $1M in pfizer stocks and then award a vaccine contract to pfizer.

Excellent info (I believe the number is more like 11%). Congress makes a decent salary 180Kish, however, they have to maintain 2 households. Certainly not enough to become a millionaire on easily unless you are financially savvy or crooked. Obviously they are not savvy.

I thought about our current situation last night and concluded that for our nation to survive (even if we are blessed with another 4 years of President Trump), We The People need to reestablish each of the three branches of our government - the judicial, the legislative, and the executive - from the ground (local) up.

While I'm not sure how best to accomplish this, it entails starting the way the colonists did, one small group at a time. When enough people are onboard in a particular area, they should elect or appoint their own representatives, judges, mayors and governors. These people should then be approved by a vote of the people. While it would definitely be an uphill battle, it would be quite difficult for the career politicians currently in power to resist the will of the people if put forth this way.
