Why the fuck are new cars suspension suddenly fucked up, and why is my drive no longer smooth?

8
Liam_Clancy 8 points ago +8 / -0

Because new cars are no more yours than the music you stream off of spotify or the games you access via steam. Junk computer crap that is impossible to repair on your own and probably able to be remote accessed but that's speculation.

I wonder if someday cars will rat you out to the cops if you speed or drive erratically, perhaps through contacting police directly or perhaps some kind of system similar to an airplane's black box where law enforcement or insurance agencies can plug in and see how you were driving.

39
LessAndLessIronic 39 points ago +40 / -1

This is a well documented problem in every scientific field. Highly trained specialists thinking they are geniuses in every area. Einstein's political ideas were naive at best. Newton spent his life chasing alchemy after basically inventing physics.

There have been a couple exceptions. Feynman for example did a lot of things outside his field just by applying some disciplined thinking.

I wouldn't go so far as to say "stay in your lane" to these guys, since they have opinions just like the rest of us, but it's important to remember that outside their fields of expertise they are just regular dudes with opinions, like all of us.

They really should stay in their lane. When these people start talking about politics for example, you know they should shut up and stick with the astrophysics, at least in professional capacity, they can have opinions like everyone else but I don’t see medical doctors or neurosurgeons thinking they know about other fields.

MadMaxUSMC 50 points ago +52 / -2

Right? Ever notice his field will state a "fact" with absolute authority and certainty. They'll ridicule anyone who disagrees. And then 5 years latter they find out they were completely wrong, state a new "fact" and start the process all over again.

I mean, the best equation they've come up with says half the universe can't be measured or interacted with in any way (dark matter/energy) and they can't figure out how one of the four fundamental forces works (gravity). And they got no idea why expansion is speeding up instead of slowing down.

What a bunch of clowns. These people are only important because of their image. We need to take a hard look at how we fund our sciences and figure out a way to pay for results and not just research. It seems like too much money is going toward research that only exists to keep the grants coming in instead of actually making progress.

9
Shroudedf8 9 points ago +9 / -0

Yeah, the whole, dark matter and dark energy can't be measured or observed in any way is highly questionable. If their theories need all that to work, I think the problem is with the theories.

3
Tyrone_biggums 3 points ago +3 / -0

Except the presence of dark matter and energy emerges purely from observation (there are massive pockets of something pulling on stars that we cannot detect in any way). So it’s not just something that comes out of pure theory. It’s wrong to say dark energy and matter are not observed—but as far as we can tell they only interact through gravitational force

2
the_green_obelisk 2 points ago +2 / -0

They observe inconsistencies because they only consider gravity at those distances. there is another force that operates on the same distances as gravity, is vastly more powerful, is strongly implicated to be present in massive amounts, and is utterly ignored by the mainstream. Instead they invent entirely new types of matter to plug the holes in the theories.

1
Shroudedf8 1 point ago +1 / -0

I figured observed was not the best word. Dark energy, and matter, if I understand correctly, are only indirectly observed. My concern is that in order for our theories of gravity and such to work, we need dark matter and energy. Or, galaxies would pretty much spin away their stars. Which is why I have questions about the validity of our current models.

2
Kweebecker 2 points ago +2 / -0

If something fundamental doesn't make sense, it probably doesn't make sense.

Remember, at one time, we assumed the orbits of planets had little loop-de-loops in them, which required a huge number of theoretical things, because we had a flawed base assumption of geocentricity. Phlogustion is another one, we thought the universe was cooling down at some fantastical rate, but then counteracted by some inner flame, not so much.

At its core, physics is "simple". In the same regard that fundamentally at its core, the internet is a pile of 0's and 1's. Little, basic, reasonable rules, which add up together to make complex existence.

But models predicted planets in our solar systems, we knew orbits didn't make sense, and so measured out reasonable assumptions of planets and even comets, based on heuristic indirect observation. Dark Matter is a placeholder, or it should be, on par with "gravity well sphere somewhere way out near the Kupier Belt" placeheld exoplanets.

The thing is, that podcast wasn't particularly good, but I think the one before it was a lot better, and the irony is it completely contradicts the worldview he's trying to show here. In that podcast, he details how you need to give credit to Christian institutions of the past for promoting a lot of the science that he loves to practice and study today. He also has rants saying that we need to appreciate Columbus for the fact that he did unite every single section of the world when they used to be cut off by oceans. He knows that there is good to Western civilization. This tweet is just a direct contradiction to something that he flat out knows to be wrong, he is pandering to Twitter, which makes it even more disturbing because now he's chasing likes over the truth.

"THOSE JOBS"

Let me stop you right there, pede. There is no such thing as a job that nobody wants to do. If the job is dangerous or uncomfortable, and nobody is signing up, the logical next move would be to increase the compensation. But when you allow a massive unchecked influx of uneducated, unskilled people, it becomes a race to the bottom for wages.

I can't tell you how many times I've had this conversation with idiot lefties. Complaining about wage stagnation while at the same time advocating for open borders is like standing in a sauna with a jacket on and complaining it's hot.

Question: how did they define "black"?

Were these people black or mulattoes?

There's been a huge problem of people rewriting history and categorizing white people with some African ancestry as "black." Even if they looked white and were accepted as white by their local communities.

Wonder if this is the beginning of how they write white people out of their own history...like making Anne Boleyn black.

Ethiopia was invaded by Italy during World War 2. The people of the nation, led by their last emperor, Haile Selassie, fought long and hard to free themselves.

Then the Soviets rolled in and, as part of our "arrangement" with the Commies, claimed Ethiopia for their own. Murdered the emperor and buried him under a barracks, outlawed the Orthodox Church, and drove what remained of the nation's economy into the dirt.

They are STILL trying to recover from what was done to them for decades, so please excuse them for being a former-Communist-by-force shithole.

When you realize that both sides of the civil war were white supremacists, the only reason they hate the confederate flag versus the american flag is that it stood for states rights.

Whether you fly the american flag or the rebel flag, you are espousing white supremacy. because that what that stands for. You’re just picking between federation or confederacy. And judging by how the federal has gone the past 160 years, I would choose confederacy.

Or you fly neither, which.... get out.

My doctor doesnt have a better political opinion about Mesopotamian culture than my plumber does just because the former has a medical degree. Biggest sign of a hack imo. Acting like an expert in one specific field makes you an authority on something unrelated.

16
Wtf_socialismreally 16 points ago +16 / -0

People associate intelligence or education in one field, or even 10, to mean all-knowing authority in others for some reason.

15
KARMAAACS 15 points ago +15 / -0

It's because it's the idea of credibility. They've done tonnes of studies on people and find that if someone wears a uniform, people perceive them to be trustworthy and correct even when they say the wrong thing. On top of that if you're at the top of one field or well known in that field, people think you're well versed on other topics too.

For instance, put a lab coat on some idiot and dress them up and make them look clean and then get an audience, then get the lab coat guy to say "The sky is the color red for x and y reason", then watch as people in the audience believe it and retell the lie to people later on. Then watch if you get three or four people in lab coats to do it to reinforce the lie and suddenly everyone in the audience believes it despite their brains seeing a blue sky moments later.

It's pretty fucked but thats how the climate change lie spreads. They get some shills, dress them up or find the right people, get them to tell the lie, find more "scientists" to reinforce the lie and then say "the consensus from scientists is that climate change will kill us in 20 years" (i.e find scientists in some other field like computer science or mathematics to repeat the lie, notice the vague meaning of "scientists", does that mean climate scientists or chemical scientists? Or does it really mean a marine biologist or computer scientist? Either way, just say "Scientists" and be vague and suddenly it's a "consensus amongst scientists") and then teach it in schools to reinforce the belief in children to cement the idea in future generations, wait and repeat this for 20 years and then find a "new discovery" or change the scientific idea as to why said event, in this instance climate change, has not happened but have enough people repeat the new lie and there ya go. You just proliferated a complete lie, but had enough credibility behind it to keep it around. I also forgot, as soon as anyone comes out and says anything to reject the claim, they slam them as a kook or some crazy individual who's not fully informed or not an actual scientist. Think about Bob Lazar and his claims about Area S4, everyone was saying he was a kook and that he was makin stuff up but so much of what he has said has come true like the hand scanners or S4 existing or him working at S4 and going to college at MIT or that the U.S Government has made contact with alien life or at the very least knows of their existence.

It's the same reason the new "ice age" didn't happen when 50 years ago they were saying it all day long how it was going to doom us. Or how we never ran out of oil when the oil crisis happened in the 70's, despite them saying there's not enough oil to last humanity for decades to come. Just straight up lie repeated by "credible" people can fool the logical part of your brain, because you think "I'm not a scientist, so I guess they're just right and know what they're talking about".

People who are experts in their field often don’t think they know all that much about their own field, let alone fields they don’t hold any credentials for.

He's not even good in his field of study. He flunked out of grad school, then got into another program where he only got his Ph.D because his professors felt bad for him and let him get their coffee at the observatory, listing him as 34th author on their paper for his thesis. He would be working at Autozone if it weren't for affirmative action and white guilt.

Neil also forgot that before Europeans were involved in colonization and imperialism, they were at each other's throats for millennia squabbling over land and resources. They didn't give a wet shit that their enemy had similar skin tones. Literally the worst two wars in the history of our species happened 100 and 80 years ago between Europeans LOL. Tribalism is all of our history. The victor is all that matters. It's a fkn miracle any Celt even made it to the 19th century, much less that they became a significant chunk of the commonwealth nations. Even people here are ignorant to the fact that the irish and italians were treated as subhuman for a long, long time.

11
Summonblood 11 points ago +11 / -0

I say this to people all the time who talk about this shit.

White people have killed more white people than any other race up until the Cold War. The idea that while people are some untied race is just historical ignorance.

If anything, the US is the first example of Europeans being able to live together in relative harmony.

readyIgnite 17 points ago +17 / -0

"History is full of examples where a higher tech society conquered a lower tech one."

I would point out the impact of lower tech ones on higher tech as well. There is exchange of peoples in every case. For example, Columbus ships returned to introduce syphilis to Europe. Rampaged through wealthy and poor alike. Wealthy elite class afflicted by the disease took the fashion of wearing wigs to cover for hair loss, trending the use of wigs in high-society. The Puritan movement emerged as a response to what it saw as degeneracy styling itself as a way of life to avoid syphilis and related afflictions. The long lasting influence of these things are traced back to the impact Native Americans sent home with Columbus men.

Worth observing that when Columbus was funded for his voyage everyone assumed it was a suicide mission. He couldn't recruit men for his ship by usual means. They issued reduced sentences to criminals who would take on the voyage, literally staffed those trips by the incarcerated. Americans venerated Columbus as folk-hero for the spirit of attempting something at great personal risk that might result in advancing human knowledge, the romanticized fictional account is what became folk-hero for a value that appealed to frontiers people in the new land. But again. He was staffed by criminals. Hence mutinies. Hence criminals acting like criminals while exploring, which the demoralizing communists find so convenient to turn ignorance into angry resentments. There's sharp divide between the fictionalized folk-hero used to exemplify an American value, and the narrow focus on brutal historic reality. Propagandists run wild.

4
Summonblood 4 points ago +4 / -0

The left’s version of world history is just the narrative of US history, but negative.

2
readyIgnite 2 points ago +2 / -0

A lasting society brainwashes their kids.

Play up the shared values, common folk-lore, paint an image of what it is to be part of that tribe and convince most kids to buy into it. Traditionally all states were ethnostates of a shared people and history. America is unique in being a society of many different ethnicities without shared cultural traditions or history. In 1800s to early 1900s a purposeful history was collected to try and knit together the differing people living here. They constructed folk-heroes that appealed to the cultures on the frontier and spoke to values held in high-regard in America that distinguished it from other places of the world. This is where you get romanticized folk-hero versions of figures like Columbus (who convey value of exploration at great personal risk for the potential of new discovery) that differs from their historic realities (not the point).

In other countries their education focuses on brainwashing for their local lore. Any coverage of outside nations often painted in a negative light.

Since the 1960's the door was opened boosting immigration into America but without plan to knit those newcomers into the existing system of shared folk-lore and values. The left harped and hammered on the differences and no need for assimilating different peoples into one shared vision. Today we're seeing inversion where the worst traits of America as perceived by those raised outside of America are the central seed of their proposed resent filled folk-lore for the country. It's a system designed to destroy social cohesion. They've no interest in building a lasting society.

"Communist bandit" really is an apt description of the net behavior. Loot the village and move on when there's nothing left to loot.

Meh, the Native Americans were in many ways healthier and more fit than the first wave of European colonists. Native American bows were not really all that inferior to muskets, if at all, because they could fire them more rapidly and accurately, with about the same range. The main reason the Native Americans got conquered was smallpox. It decimated 90-95% of the Native Americans and eliminated entire tribes and nations.

16
priestessnico 16 points ago +16 / -0

The Comanches took the foreign horse and mastered it, then became better than any other culture on Earth with it. They and their bows and horses dominated the southwest for 150 years in the face of colonization. Fun fact, they were finally brought down because the colt revolver evened the playing field with their bows.

1
the_sky_is_falling 1 point ago +4 / -3

Exactly and why the Vikings were decimated by the Native Americans 500 year earlier, when they landed in North America.

Had smallpox not decimated the population, there is a high chance the Natives would eventually have either fought back significantly or created their own united nation, that would have prevented a creation of an American state from East to West of the north American continent

10
Yam_nation 10 points ago +11 / -1

Really? They lacked a written language, the wheel, any kind of machinery and manufacturing. Your hypothesis is hard to believe.

1
the_sky_is_falling 1 point ago +1 / -0

The rapidly learnt to use the horse that was re-introduced into North America by the Spanish colonists and had mastered its use within a few decades, so much so that we don't even think of the idea of a Native riding a horse and firing arrows from atop it is anything peculiar.

The idea that they would not have been able to adapt to the changes coming is absurd.

2
thewashambro 2 points ago +3 / -1

The indians didn't want to create a nation. Their civilization was less advanced than Sub-saharan ones. If the people never settle down in one spot, it is impossible for Science and thus society to evolve. Indians had no interest in contributing to civilization only to hunt. Horses just happened to make that easier. Perhaps they could have posed some sort of meaningful civilizations but never would they have banded together to stop the Americans. Not all 574 tribes or anywhere close.

10

Peaceful. LOL

If they'd been able to manage it, they'd have killed every male, enslaved every woman, and stolen every child of the European Tribe. Exactly the same thing they did to each other for tens of thousands of years before Europeans arrived.

hell, the Navajo of the US Southwest were cannibals, and if you want to go a bit farther south what killed off the Maya was industrial scale self-sacrifice. When their crops started dying after a number of dry years they killed their children as offerings to their gods, and when that didn't work they didn't STOP killing, but doubled down and sacrificed MORE. And then more again, and more again, until there weren't enough people left alive to support the infrastructure of their cities and they drifted back into the jungle. The piles of human hearts filled swimming pool sized pits.

Peaceful

LOL

The fun part? Ask random people on the street today, and they'll wax poetic about how American Indians are gentle, "at one with Nature", and have "great wisdom."

Fuck. I've seen the aftermath of Apaches who locked their tribal enemies in cage trucks intended for animal transport, soaked them with gasoline, and lit it.

8

Or "known" history of native americans MIGHT go back to the 1400s not "tens of thousands of years".

Fuck, even in the north the Cherokees had a written language with symbols representing spoken syllables. Dude do some research before you attempt to troll.

3
Yam_nation 3 points ago +3 / -0

Wiki says the Cherokee symbols were made in the 1810's 1820's. After Europeans arrived if that wasn't obvious. I've seen street signs on Canadian reserves in whatever language they speak but using Roman alphabet characters. School me more on this rich written history.

3
poobusdoobus 3 points ago +3 / -0

He was using Cherokees as an extreme. To be fair, the North American Indians didn't really write at that allotted time frame. However, the central American and South Americans did. The Azecs, Mayans, and Olmec had ruins that went back thousands of years.

I do appreciate u/SomaMinded 's emphasis, however. It's easy just to dismiss those cultures out of hand when the other side overly glorifies them. I'm not saying the Native Americans are perfect, but we should strive to be fair in our assessments (and not clump together a diverse group of peoples into one amalgomous monster defined only by its negatives), which I think Soma is on the right track to doing.

2
SomaMinded 2 points ago +2 / -0

Well said

2
D0NNIE_DARK0 2 points ago +2 / -0

MerchantMan99 3 points ago +3 / -0

There is a lot about the human body that could be designed much better, indicating that if it did have an intelligent designer, he didn't do such a great job.

Why do have an appendix? It serves no purpose and appendicitis was a death sentence before treatment was discovered.

Thousands of people die every year from choking on food or water. If the passage to the lungs and stomach were completely separate, like in dolphins, then this would never happen. Poor design.

Not to mention the endless amount of physical problems people can have throughout their life.

0
flashersenpai 0 points ago +1 / -1

Yeah, but the "design" in question, if intelligent, doesn't have to have as its goal the health of the human. We design all sorts of products with obvious inefficiencies and flaws that are nonetheless acceptable in context.

A design can just be "good enough" especially when that design can draft it's own upgrades.

0
Barthaneous 0 points ago +2 / -2

Lol appendix is an immune booster for kids. Everyone knows that. And yes it if burst you died but so did anyone who got a cold and didn't treat it. Doesn't mean the design is bad means the mechanics sucked.

And lmao did you say chocking on food and water? That's user error bro not design flaw.

And to say evolution exists in the modern atheist view then the supreme being would have lungs, and gills since gills are very important to breath under water. We would have arms and legs and wings since all of them are important. We would have never lost a tail as tails on all animals are in fact important. We would have the eyes of an eagle , the strength of a beetle , the ability to camouflage at will, jump as high as a flea, and survive a nuclear blast like a water bear cell.

All in all evolution is the greatest deception the world has ever seen. Yet the various changes within each kind of creature that is observable and testable by science is proven to in 100% alignment with biblical doctrine.

3
MerchantMan99 3 points ago +3 / -0

That's user error bro not design flaw.

It's 100% design flaw. There is absolutely no benefit to it and only potential downside.

This is the Hollywood (I'm the next link in the evolutionary chain) version of evolution that is indeed bullshit. All those things you mentioned come with a price. Everything comes with a price. You can be bigger, faster, stronger, and smarter, but that doesn't mean you are better off because you will also need to consume a lot more fuel and have a much more complex body.

Evolution isn't some ladder with insects at the bottom and people at the top. It's a sphere that goes in all directions. Are people more evolved than cockroaches? In some ways, yes. But a cockroach can be thrown off the highest rooftop and have no problem surviving the fall. They can breed much faster. They can fit in tiny cracks and escape predators. They can survive radiation much easier. And 10,000 years from now, guess which species I'm putting my money on to still be around.

We pay a big price for being bigger and smarter.

All in all evolution is the greatest deception the world has ever seen.

The version you described? Yeah. But the only universe without evolution is one that's frozen in time. Environments obviously change over time. Different species cross over to different land masses and new predator/prey relationships are formed. Species have no choice but to evolve to keep up with the changes.

Also, how do you think we got dogs like chihuahuas and weiner dogs? Because they certainly didn't exist 200 years ago. They all have one common ancestor. The wolf. And with selective breeding, you can turn a wolf into a weiner dog. We just sped up the evolutionary process because we can pick their mates and have 100% control over their environment.

We didn't evolve bro we are made they way we are. We change and vary in shape and size and color but so does all other kinds and species. There has never been or ever will be evidence of macro evolution. And still to this day all hoax evidence that is found in every museum of humanoid apes have all been proven to be fraudulent and artists reductions of what they think they were like. And they made all these ape men to look the way they did with not even a single complete skeleton. It's bullshit and many atheists have been calling it out as such.

We are made in Gods image and all animals are made to be as they are.
