Degree is in exercise science with a minor in history. I am 5 classes into a master's in cyber security. Not the best paper resume but at the same time fuck that, 65% of Americans don't have a bachelor's. I'm pretty sure I'm not even getting fucking looks anymore even for places like the local storage warehouse. Please, for the love of God, someone tell me all the IT jobs are being filled by dot Indians and everything else is being filled with.... people that do not have the same paper qualifications that I do. I know it's fucking true. At this point, after 11 fucking months, I have absolutely no doubt I would have a job if I was black. Anyone else in this boat?
I'm sure you were replaced by a low-wage H1B visa worker living 8 to a bedroom in some rental house.
I used to bill $100 per hour with all travel expenses paid by the client. Today, if I was LUCKY, I would maybe get $45 an hour, and have to pay my own travel expenses. All thanks to H1B visas just absolutely DECIMATING the US tech worker in favor of profits for big tech.
If we're so damned desperate for tech workers, then why are they paid so poorly? The law should be that for a company to bring on an H1B worker, they should be paid DOUBLE the going market rate for the skill set in question. I mean, supply and demand, right? It is all a fucked up sham, all thanks to our garbage congress - both Democrats AND fucking Republicans.

I have seen first white men, then basically any other not on the diversity train be kicked out of the big tech industry. Many of us are working for ourselves or based smaller companies. We need to be better at where money is spent. That is a big solution to this problem.

You can make good money working in a warehouse now. It's not work that needs a degree, but exercise science doesn't get you much. Keep working hard and if you're really feeling aggressive be ready to move. There are affordable parts of this country looking for workers and you're young. A few years getting side tracked from your initial goals might be a great thing as I've been very successful, but got derailed a few times in my 20s before I found my niche.
