Absolutely... good many basic, decent firearms in the $350-$550 range... Your problem will be what is available or in stock in your area. I used to have some really nice ones- dang... Ruger, Smith&Wesson, etc. Besides, if your new to it all- start out with a basic defense pistol of some kind and learn, practice etc. If you enjoy and want to upgrade, that's for later. Check out Rural King for prices and availability- they can ship to a dealer near you- or give you good ideas.

Absolutely. Do your online research and pay attention to availability. Handguns can easily be bought under that price, so go see your local gun shop to see what’s in stock.
ARs may be tough to find right now but with careful searching you can get a good one for that price maybe. Before the plandemic it would have been very easy, but demand is so high right now you may pay more or not find any available at that price.
CZ 75 - NRA instructor here. If you can find one, best shooting gun out there to practice with. We teach with them and our students love them. Great trigger out of the box, all steel......not a carry gun. Get accurate first and then look for a carry gun.
DPMS panther AR-15
Canik tp9 elite sc. dope firearm for the price
SKS and some 7.62 X 39 ammo to feed it. What's left over will buy you some gear.

Taurus g2c is an inexpensive CC gun. Problem is finding the ammo now
I’ve heard that too. Not an issue with me, yet I guess. Those hi points weigh like 9 lbs

not a fan of pistols, but have been trying to get a Keltec P-17. For $199, it seems great.

Actually YES, You can get either a good handgun OR an Armalite Rifle. That is if you are legally able to purchase and/or own a weapon.
