It's just another form of income redistribution--we don't get it (blessed to have both of us working after military retirement plus neither of us got laid off) and pay in a TON in income and property tax. I don't mind helping out those the grubmint has screwed over, but it frosts my cornflakes that people who literally have no skin in the game get the freebies that our grandchildren will have to pay for!
