I’ve always found cold turkey the best. First few weeks are really tough but it gets easier. Just works better for me.

Best way to quit

Swagdaddy77 2 points ago +2 / -0

my dad quit. I am going to be honest with you. It is not going to be easy. It will take time. You stop smoking and instead take Nicorat gum. It will be a hard couple of years but it will be worth it.

I'm doing the same in a bout a week. Tried before, cravings will come at you fast, hard, and often, but they only last a few minutes. So toothpicks, gum, mints help. Try doing some pushups/exercise every time you get a craving.

Were you smoking a vape or cigarettes?

You don't really need that cigarette. When you smoke a cigarette, all it does is create a vacuum that you have to fill later with another cigarette. Stop creating those vacuums. Those holes you have to keep trying to fill back up again. Commit to quit and keep thinking about what each cigarette is actually doing....creating the next vacuum, and go ahead and smoke for awhile with that thought in your mind. Every single time you take a puff, every single cigarette from now on....think of that. Think to yourself what a terrible thing it is that that cigarette is doing to you, creating another damn vacuum. Once you smoke your last cigarette, get through that initial crappy vacuum feeling, and the vacuum will disappear on it's own.

Then you just need to do something else (have a pen in your hand and tap it or something) for awhile to get past that muscle memory stuff. Take long deep breaths to mimic taking a drag. The long deep breaths will calm you and actually end up having the same type of effect on you. It relaxes you.

I was a 2-pack a day smoker and I quit 17 years ago. I always thought I'd always wish I could have a cigarette or be jealous of smokers.. (lol). I was hardcore. I would go to the 7-11 at 2am just for cigarettes if I ran out, just so I wouldn't be without them in the morning. It did not take very long at all for me to feel like I felt BEFORE I ever started smoking. I smoked for about 15 years before I quit. I can say with absolute honesty, I feel like I never ever smoked a cigarette in my life. Once the nicotine left my body and I looked at cigarettes differently (instead of seeing them as a 'friend", and started seeing them as some little bastard that was making my life miserable with all those damn vacuums) I was just fine.

I know this was long. sorry. But hey, I know how hard it is to think about quitting. And I also know that it really isn't as bad as you think once you get the right mindset.

Good luck! and Happy Birthday.

Find a non smoking website.

Seriously though - Alan Carr - read his book

Yes! Alan Carr. That is an excellent book. That helped me more than anything.... I tried to explain it the best I could with that vacuum stuff I was talking about in my post. lol. I forgot the guy's name.

A lungful of fresh air is feels great compared to holding your breath and passing out. Savor the cool flow of life giving air. Also, embrace the feeling of quitting. It isn't about being perfect.

I quit smoking by switching to vaping for a few years. Roughly match your nicotine level then slowly lower it. You’ll be left with no nicotine addiction and just the daily routine addiction (stuff like instinctively reaching for the vape after a sip of coffee for example), that then can be broken in a month.

Start running or other cardio work

Been smoke free for 8 years and vape free for over 2, never even think about the shit now.

**edit, oh and don’t beat yourself up when you slip and smoke a cig just don’t buy a pack, if you do buy a pack in drunken desperation for example, throw it out in the morning. Then go right back to the plan

It's the morning cig that'll get you. Set yourself up to finish a pack before bed. Wake up, have no cigarettes to smoke, try from there.

What worked for me at first was switching to vaping temporarily then cutting down from there. Tried different reusable brands until I settled on Vuse Alto.

Cigs? Vape works great, make a plan to step down the nicotine every few months.

Find a reputable place and try hypnosis. Puts you on an even playing field. Almost completely eliminated the cravings.

Are you religious? It may sound cheesy but I prayed. I decided it was time to quit and I asked the Lord for help to be strong and I was able to do it.

I used Chantix very successfully. Quit now for 5 years. I do have an occasional cigar.

A $10 vuse kit from 711 did it for me. Although I've gone thru quite a few since the election, I won't go back to cigarettes. My coughing and headaches cleared up in just days of dropping cigarettes but I still get my nicotine fix to calm my nerves.

My best friend smoked for 40 years. She quit and started vaping. Since then she Vape’s very little. It took a year or so, but she’s so much happier now. None of the smoke smell, you don’t have to go outside to smoke a cigarette, you don’t have to worry about your teeth being brown or your breath stinking. You can Vape in your house or in your car, and there’s no older, or very little. Your life will change just get a Vape! Before you do though, do the research and find out which type would be best for you, and see which amount of nicotine would be good for you. Little by little you can lower the amount of nicotine that you use. There are lots of flavors, and I think he will enjoy it much more. She’s about ready to quit completely now. It would be a step in the right direction. Best of luck to you I’ll be praying for you PEDE!

You can do it! Think about all the befits you will gain whenever it gets difficult.

No yellow teeth/fingers No more bad smoker breath You won't reek to every non-smoker that you meet(Trust me, you do. We can all smell it on you and it smells awful.... most of us are just too polite to say anything) You'll live longer You'll feel better You won't die of lung cancer in twenty years You'll save a fortune not buying cigarettes..... bonus points if you set the money you would spend on cigarettes aside and buy yourself something really cool as a reward for not smoking after say 6 months.

Rewarding yourself for good behavior is the be
