It is forgotten by Christians whose faith has been watered down lest they be uncomfortable in thinking about the real link between the wood of the manger and the wood of the Cross.

I am a non-believer. I celebrate it for a few reasons, one, it is a great reason to be with family and friends, two, a reason to be civil to shitheads, three, i celebrate your religious freedom. please let me know if this was a 'no clear idea or understanding other than "tradition"' explanation.

Jesus was born in spring. Winter holiday is a pagan celebration that celebrated the winter solstice, meaning the days are getting longer.

There are two answers.

The reason for winter holiday is pagan based on sun cycles.

The reason for Christmas is Jesus.

Christmas should be in spring, but because of pandering it is celebrated in winter.
