I've never owned a gun (and am far, far from an expert), but I really would like to buy one. I want to go BIG. Wouldn't mind dropping a couple of thousand dollars on it and want to purchase a rifle. Any suggestions?

I agree, first gun is good to be a handgun.
Abrams tank
dude its really complicated go to your local gun shop and talk to them be honest what you want no 1 gun fits all
jesus lol.
no. you want an AR-15 you don't need to get a crazy one. an M and P is fine... do your research on a reputable brand. Get a few magazines and 1000 rounds of ammo if you can.
Practice dry firing a lot and get some training.
What is the main purpose of the gun? Do you want home defense? Personal defense? Target? Hunting? Competition? Do you have the money to buy ammo and become proficient on your own? Do you have the money to take a class? Do you want a more modern firearm? Historical? Have you ever shot a gun before? If so, what was it, caliber, circumstances? Lots of factors that need to be answered before anyone can really give you an informed opinion.
Shotgun for home defense. Either a rifle or a handgun that you plan to spend a chunk on ammo to actually learn how to use effectively. The gun market is screwed right now so you're probably going to spend x2 or x3 compared to 2019.
If it was me just starting out I'd grab an AR chambered in 5.56, a nice 9mm or 40 hand gun, and a semi automatic 12 gauge.
Get a beater reliable rifle or a handgun. Spend a couple thou in ammo.and shoot like you're in the army. Take a course maybe.
You're not liable to benefit or want to service an exotic rifle
Nah bro get a handgun. Much better optics
Start with a handgun so you can carry it for self defense. Glocks are great for beginners
