If you are going to drop "bombshells".... at least use the right methodology/terminology and not sound like you are just all over the map. A thermostat hacking a dominion machine? really? So the Thermostat was used as a backdoor into a network.... This still requires an internet connection to the the network and thermostat.... Just technologically impractical.

I'm no expert, but I do know smart devices like thermostats are bi-directional, meaning they both send and receive data using standard wireless protocols.

We don't allow our thermostat to connect to our network, but it does have the capability to essentially connect to our network, which through a remote service operated by Nexia, can communicate with an iPhone app to allow us to check and change our settings.

So it's not that far fetched that a thermostat with Chinese components have backdoors (which we've known about for years BTW) that would allow it to act like a relay to a dominion machine with a wireless component inside of it.

Edit: Nexia not Nexium, which is a smart home service not a sex cult :D

No, its not a far fetched idea. It could very well provide an attack vector into the network to fuck with machines.... but if there is no outside connection to the internet that door closes...
