Looking for a long range rifle and considering a .308, a 6.5 CM, or something else? Looking for something with at least 500 yards with maybe less than 70 inch drop at that range.

There was a pede who just posted on Gunday a pic with his M110 Sniper Rifle in Afghanistan ,pretty sure he was a squad marksman & now specializes in Guiding for Long Range Hunting around the world ,they are the type of guys you should be asking.
He had a video & pics up of him dropping a huge wild hog at over 1200 yards with one of his custom rifles,it was one of the best videos l have seen off being able to follow the bullet vapor trail till it dropped the huge Hog on the spot.
For hunting our long range rifles for over 500 start at 7mm Magnums & l prefer the 300 Mags ,but that is because you are aiming to drop large living creatures with man size vital areas.
It really depends what you want to do with it & what experience you have ,the 308 is a OK for just range shooting & with manageable recoil ,but if it is just for the range a 7/08 /280/6.5 grend etc would do the same with less recoil.
