They are pulling officers and enlisted from ALL the other branches, especially the engineering and intelligence divisions to start out the build up...
(I know cause a family member from the Air Force was asked to join, but they are on track to do well in the division they are in and aren't sure how legit the Space Force rank advancement will be after Trump leaves office (whenever that is).... )
Anyway... it's a military branch being crated from within all of the existing ones. Good part is that many of them seem to have to CHOOSE to become part of it, so they will have a real vision for what it can become.

Almost everyone in USSF was transferred directly from USAF. I work with these people every day.
Star Trek was more on point than people give it credit for. It was a glimpse into the future.
I posted this about a week ago. Space Force is definitely involved.
