christianity grew and displaced most other major religions because it enshrines a morality that encourages the family unit and traditional gender roles, which ultimately combine to cause population growth in that religion. it's why ultra-orthodox religions that eschew leftist degeneracy are all growing rapidly, while the religions that failed to resist that bullshit are in contraction or have collapsed (including much of christianity today).
one could easily say "to be moral, you must embody the family unit and traditional gender roles" without requiring christianity, and so long as people follow that moral code, that society will grow.
those are macro-moralities which cause a society to overcome other competing societies. there are plenty of other micro-moralities which have nothing to do with sustaining the religion... much of the rest of christianity was about usurping power from kings. look at catholicism... you're required to confess your sins and pay the church to give them blackmail material on you.
