Heck, just buy old Nintendo consoles to give them an appreciation of older technology. Every generation has had good games, especially multiplayer for families. Pokémon Stadium 1 and 2 were the bomb for me and my siblings.

Don't drag a kid down. Never had a game system. Sure wanted one. Glad I never got one.

All my gamer friends are fat and lazy and glib. I have no respect for them because they don't respect themselves. They have a limited understanding of the world. They rage quit discussions that would bore everyone on here. Gamers never wanna look at their own culture. It's isolating and escapist. And it's ridiculous to watch grown adults play kids games and it's sick to watch kids play adult games.

Games are for fags and they are half the reason the population is so fucking inarticulate.

China loves the brain-stunting, distracting effect of gaming. Grow the fuck and certainly don't inculcate kids into a vector that will invariably leave them weaker for it.

Okay man, you can say that for everything. Better to sit inside and draw all day? Thats sure isolationist. Also no, you can play with your friends which is what I did and continue to do. If thats how your friends act then look at the company yourself keep.

Gotta admit, Nintendo is the only based gaming company. The headquarters in Japan doesn't put up with identity politics crap and refuses to get into that stuff because they want the games to only be about having fun.

Is there a particular reason for this (Age, Perceptions, etc)?

I'll throw my two cents into the ring anyway. Consoles, especially Nintendo devices (whether that is Handhelds or actual Consoles) are probably the better forms of gaming available for what can actually be considered reasonably educational purposes.

Many kid friendly Role Playing Games are particularly accessible through these consoles (think 'Pokemon' for instance) that have a number of crucial lessons that can help reinforce lessons you and his mother have taught him. "You can't just brute force your way through everything, you have to work hard, and think about your strategy" You've also got an interesting entry point for vitamins for biological science later down the line, as he'll likely be familiar with Iron, Zinc, Calcium.

RPG's (and some Platformers/Adventure with story - for instance Paper Mario: Origami King) also make good additions to (and may eventually become a substitute for) books.

As a man that was rarely interested in the action/shooters I can only say that my interest in Role Playing Games for personal drive have paid dividends. Knowing that you have to put effort into this to get something out of it incentivizes time investment, hard work, and importantly as he gets older, 'Working Smarter'. I'm sure some of the others below will attest to knowing of games where you could jam your control stick in one direction, tape it down, and use it to collect experience.

Additionally, does he start to take an interest in Shooters (Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc. etc.)? Do you yourself have weapons? Why not combine the two as in tandem makes an excellent combination for education and discipline - there needs not be an 'online' component for the introductions, that can always be agreed later.

I'm sure there are lots of people that will argue that video games are unhealthy, and to much an extent, I agree, as it will depend upon the person, and the genre of games obtained that will potentially direct them. I'm not a massive fan of FIFA (for instance) because why would I not go out and play soccer? But for Children there can be a healthy, and measured way, of introducing them to things and concepts which they cannot yet fully do (for instance, drive, shoot, etc.). They can also act as a means to enhance their education, and, with proper discipline, would not necessarily hinder them in anyway. I was still an active child, I still made friends, etc. etc.

Just somethings for you to consider as time moves on. Keep disciplining the leftists!
