Heck, just buy old Nintendo consoles to give them an appreciation of older technology. Every generation has had good games, especially multiplayer for families. Pokémon Stadium 1 and 2 were the bomb for me and my siblings.

Being outside has its limits, especially when it is cold outside or one is in the mood for something else. As a child who played a ton of nintendo and a ton of outside playtime, I think there's a good balance. Its a problem if he spends most of his time indoors, but if he lives in a larger city he's going to have much less options outside than in a rural area.

Games with a lot of writing also increase verbal skills.

Don't drag a kid down. Never had a game system. Sure wanted one. Glad I never got one.

All my gamer friends are fat and lazy and glib. I have no respect for them because they don't respect themselves. They have a limited understanding of the world. They rage quit discussions that would bore everyone on here. Gamers never wanna look at their own culture. It's isolating and escapist. And it's ridiculous to watch grown adults play kids games and it's sick to watch kids play adult games.

Games are for fags and they are half the reason the population is so fucking inarticulate.

China loves the brain-stunting, distracting effect of gaming. Grow the fuck and certainly don't inculcate kids into a vector that will invariably leave them weaker for it.

Okay man, you can say that for everything. Better to sit inside and draw all day? Thats sure isolationist. Also no, you can play with your friends which is what I did and continue to do. If thats how your friends act then look at the company yourself keep.

It made me really good in English. Always got top grades in English. Also made me more 'outgoing' since you talk to strangers over mic/chat in online games, which makes it easier to do irl. Also made a lot of great friends over the years.

Also me and my friends used to sit together and play console games a lot, which was really fun.

We used to play a LOT, but we were also outside doing shit so not like we were just nerding it out.

It's a good way to use it as something he needs to 'earn' as you say, that way he can do what he wants (play video games) while also doing physical stuff. I know a lot of parents loathe video games (work with them) and want their kids to throw rocks at cars like they did, but it really sucks to be the only kid in your school that dont know anything about video games when thats all the kids are talking about at school

Video games are only bad if your kid ends up sitting in basement 24/7, but if it gets to that point its kinda the parents fault imo
