Maintaining low taxes and a free market economy is a much better way to address poverty. Although the government has introduced welfare spending and has spent more and more on education, throwing money at problems does not solve them. It is unethical to have people send their hard-earned money to distant bureaucracies that are often mismanaged. It is better to let workers use the salaries they earned in the manner that they choose, rather than giving it to a government that will use these taxes for far-off military ventures, well-meaning but failed domestic policies, and foreign development projects that will fill the coffers of corrupt politicians in foreign countries. Recent tax cuts have shown that small government policy does in fact work as the economy saw a boost before the pandemic. Businesses small and large were able to expand and hire more workers. Wages rose and people began earning more for their work. Low taxes and regulations on businesses make it more likely that people will go through with their entrepreneurial spirit. It means that businesses will be able to keep more of the money they make which they then use to hire more people and raise wages. Thus, all citizens benefit. More people will be employed which means that they will finally have the means to take care of themselves and their family instead of relying on government aid. https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/trump-tax-cuts-economy-deficits/

Trump’s free market policies were so effective that between May and June 2020, national employment rose by 2,369,000. Small businesses with less than 50 employees saw the largest rise in hired employees. Almost every single service and industry saw a boost in employment numbers. And this was amidst the pandemic! https://adpemploymentreport.com/2020/June/NER/NER-June-2020.aspx

My parents are immigrants who came from the lowest rung of the socioeconomic ladder, yet through hard work and persistence, have earned their way into a higher standard of living and better-paying jobs. The story of my family has helped me dispel the constant rhetoric from the left that portrays "minorities" as victims who are in need of government assistance. When my father came to America as an adult who dropped out of high school in Mexico, he decided to turn the tables and go back to school. He learned English, then attended high school while working. He then attended community college while working full-time to support his family. The hard work paid off as he eventually made it to university and obtained college degrees, which opened up opportunities that raised our standard of living. His story is the story of the perseverance of the American dream. However, he is not the only example to come from my family. I have an uncle who dropped out of school in the fourth grade due to a family tragedy. At a young age he was forced to work and help support his family. When he came to the U.S., he came with even less of an education level than my father, yet like him, he resolved to work his way to a better life. Though starting out with such a high disadvantage, he too has made it into the middle class. Though he knows little English and has a rudimentary education, his work ethic has propelled him into a comfortable life that exemplifies the success story of the American ideal. These have forced me to reconsider that leftist view of America as a repressive force in need of existential change and have solidified my support for the Founding ideals of liberty and personal responsibility.

Regarding the wall/open borders

Open borders incentivizes women to make the dangerous trek through Mexico in which many are subject to sexual assault. Open borders are inhumane for Americans and many migrants. According to Doctors Without Borders, "Along the migration route... migrants and refugees are preyed upon by criminal organizations, sometimes with the tacit approval or complicity of national authorities, and subjected to violence and other abuses —abduction, theft, extortion, torture, and rape— that can leave them injured and traumatized. — 68.3 percent of the migrant and refugee populations entering Mexico reported being victims of violence during their transit toward the United States. — Nearly one-third of the women surveyed had been sexually abused during their journey. — MSF patients reported that the perpetrators of violence included members of gangs and other criminal organizations, as well as members of the Mexican security forces responsible for their protection. — 60 percent of the 166 people treated for sexual violence were raped, and 40 percent were exposed to sexual assault and other types of humiliation, including forced nudity." http://archive.is/BZrMZ "According to a... Fusion investigation, 80% of women and girls crossing into the U.S. by way of Mexico are raped during their journey. That’s up from a previous estimate of 60%, according to an Amnesty International report. " Authorities investigate reports of migrants trying to buy children to enter the U.S. http://archive.is/2iKWE

This does not take into account the fact that migrants die when crossing the desert. They would likely refrain from doing so if a border wall stopped them in their tracks. Additionally, open borders allow drug cartels easy access to America, where they sell their drugs that kill thousands of Americans every year. They then use this money to buy corrupt politicians and security forces in Mexico and terrorize the country. In southern Texas exists Starr County, one of the most Hispanic counties in the country. Its own residents talk about the fear they live with as heavily armed drug cartel members from Mexico cross between countries. Violence has even hit their homes. Many of these formerly Democrat majority Hispanic southern Texas counties voted for Trump this year or almost did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VQowNd5LnA
