Thought this might interest you. The phrase “Belt and Road” is misleading. It gives the effort an air of innocent economic expansion. Here’s what my Japanese friend tells me.
In Chinese it writes
一帯一路
Which is the same in Japanese and
'一' means one.
'帯' means belt, but in Asia, a belt is historically made of a tightly woven fabric. So, "one belt" means tightly woven together.
'一路' means one way or only way. And of course, in China, the only way is the CCP way. So, this really means tightly woven together under CCP rule or Under tight CCP rule is what it really means.
Yes. Thank you for the post, btw. I believe the Belt and Road Initiative is what is driving Trump’s middle east peace deals. Through, I believe it was Epoch Times articles, I learned that with this initiative China has already established a strong foothold in Iran, with a goal of commandeering the entire middle east and thus control of all it’s oil reserves. Some of these countries are in desperate economic situations and the Chinese are able to woo them on board with promises of a brighter economic future, while keeping their eyes closed to the reality that China’s real goal is to rule over them politically. With the middle east peace deals I believe the effort is to spur a viable economic future for these countries that allows them to reject Chinese hegemony.
What the hell.....
When we visited 10 years ago there was a ton of uncompleted construction. The guide said it was Chinese owned.

Interesting. Horrifying.

Ah, that makes sense. And another reason for the US to strive for energy independence.
