Thought this might interest you. The phrase “Belt and Road” is misleading. It gives the effort an air of innocent economic expansion. Here’s what my Japanese friend tells me.

In Chinese it writes 一帯一路 Which is the same in Japanese and '一' means one. '帯' means belt, but in Asia, a belt is historically made of a tightly woven fabric. So, "one belt" means tightly woven together. '一路' means one way or only way. And of course, in China, the only way is the CCP way. So, this really means tightly woven together under CCP rule or Under tight CCP rule is what it really means.
