Arlington is walking distance to downtown, about 5-10 miles depending on where you stay. There are multiple bike/walking trails that you can use to get to the bridge if they close the metro down.
You can walk across the Arlington memorial bridge (in front of the entrance to Arlington Nat’l cemetery) to the Lincoln Memorial. If you stay in Pentagon City/Crystal City/ or Arlington, you can walk the jogging path that parallels the Washington Memorial Parkway/The Potomac River to the bridge.
Your Dad’s right. You’ll be walking but not as much as any other way in. My husband was stationed at Henderson Hall back when so good info.
I can only speculate why your father would insist on Arlington.
Closer /shorter ride on the train.
Three diff bridges within walking distance to cross into DC.
Closer to route 50 if you need to high-tail it out. Get on 50 heading west and it's short 70-80 miles to WV without having to use the beltway to get out.
Arlington also populated by a lot of military (for what ever that is worth)
Come from the va side, There will be militia groups standing guard at metro stations to ensure safe passage, MD gun laws suck ass. Stay in groups and be prepared to defend yourselves on arrival to DC stations, don’t break from groups, stay together. Also, if parking at metro stations I HIGHLY recommend parking away from the metro lot and Uber to station to prevent vandalism of your car. STAY IN GROUPS BE PREPARED TO DEFEND YOURSELVES ON DC SIDE there will be good guys with me at stations on VA side armed and ready to assist all patriots
Crystal city is good, Tysons corner has a lot of good hotels and high security, even Fairfax area isn’t a bad idea. I definitely recommend leaving your car at hotel and ride share to the metro station
Id like to know as well.

Has your Dad ever driven from Rockville to Arlington? In traffic? Has he considered he is adding 4 hours driving time to your trip?

And prepare for FUCK TONS of traffic. Legit plan an extra 3-6 hours for travel that day.
